An alumna of Durban College, the future choreographer studied graphic design before going to Season 2 of So You Think You Can Dance (South African version). Reportedly, she walked 7.3 kilometers to get to the Bat Centre for the audition in 2010, as she had no money for a taxi.

Back in 2008, Mbatha had attended Dance Direction International for a 3-year course in modern dance, which helped to stick firmly in the dance show. She finished 8th in So You Think You Can Dance.

Even though she was not victorious, the dancer caught the eyes of Sibu Mabena and Jay Kayembe (owners of Coreo Creatives), who would book her for big concerts.
