If you've watched the Netflix mystery drama film Lost Girls, I'm sure that you're familiar with the name Mari Gilbert and her mission to crack the Long Island serial killer case.
In the film, activist Mari Gilbert desperately tries to solve the disappearance of her daughter Shannan Gilbert which later sheds light on a wave of unsolved murders on the South Shore barrier islands of Long Island. However, today we are gonna talk about one of Gilbert's daughters Sherre Gilbert.

Who Is Late Mari Gilbert's Second Daughter Sherre Gilbert?
Sherre Gilbert was born in 1987 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania to activist Mari Gilbert. She is 35 years old as of 2022.
She grew up alongside her late sister Shannan, younger sister Sarra, and her half-sister Stevie. As per reports, her mother Mari worked at a Walmart and her father was once reported as schizophrenic and heroin addict.

Besides this, not much is known about her childhood and her educational qualifications.
How Did The Gilbert Family Grab Media Attention?
In May 2010, Mari's eldest daughter Shannan (who was working as an escort at that time) mysteriously went missing after a 22 minutes call with 911. As per sources, she was at a client's home in Oak Beach, Long Island at the time of her disappearance.
After she went missing, her mother tirelessly began looking for her with the help of the police department. Sadly, no updates were found about her until 13th December 2011 when Shannan was found dead half a mile away from where she was last seen a year ago.
However, Shannan's body was not the only thing discovered that day. The Suffolk County Police Department found corpses of 10 others: one man, a toddler, and eight women along the shore near Oak Beach and Gilgo Beach.
This unfortunate events' killer went to become the infamous Long Island Serial Killer or the Giglo Beach Killer.
Although a series of discoveries lead to conclude that Shannan and the other victims had the same killer, however, investigators revealed that she got caught up in the muddy brush and brambly of the march and drowned to death.
Despite the autopsy and police reports, Mari denied that her daughter's death was an accident and relentlessly searched for the killer until her death in 2016.
As of now, there are no recent updates regarding Shannan's case and the killer is still at large.
Mari Gilbert Dies At The Hands Of Her Own Daughter
Five years after the mysterious disappearance of one of their own, tragedy hit the Gilbert family once again. On 23rd July 2016, at the age of 52, Mari was found dead in her daughter Sarra's apartment building on Warren Street in Ellenville, New York.
Sarra who suffered from schizophrenia stabbed her mother (227 times) to death claiming that the voices inside her dead told her to carry out the crime. She even hit her mother with a fire extinguisher although she was no longer alive.

As per the family's attorney Ray, Sarra had reportedly invited her mother to her house telling her she was hearing voices.
Mari, a concerned mother who had gone there only to check up on her child, sadly, lost her life.
As for Sarra, she was sentenced to 25 years in jail in AUgust 2017 and is serving her time in the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women.
