In April 1963, Porter and her daughter moved in with Ruth Paine, a Quaker and Russian language student they had met at a party. Lee Oswald rented a separate room in Dallas and lived there visiting Marina and her children only on weekends. On October 20, Porter gave birth to a second daughter, Audrey Marina Rachel Oswald.
Porter learned of the assassination of Kennedy from the media coverage of the event, and later, of the arrest of her husband. That afternoon, Dallas Police Department detectives arrived at the Paine household, and when asked if Lee owned a rifle, she gestured to the garage, where Lee Oswald stored his rifle rolled up in a blanket; no rifle was found.
She was subsequently questioned both at the Paine household, and later at Dallas Police Department headquarters in relation to her husband's involvement in the assassination of the president, and the shooting of Dallas police officer J. D. Tippit. She was widowed on November 24, when her husband was shot by Jack Ruby.
Gripped by fear and facing accusations from those who believe she also had a part in conspiring the JFK assassination, Marina has lived in Rockwall, Texas, since the mid-Seventies with her second husband and three children.
She met Lee Harvey Oswald, a former U.S marine defected to the Soviet Union at the time at a dance on March 17, 1961. After a month of being together, Lee and Marina got married on April 30, 1961. They conceived their first child, June Lee on February 15, 1962. The Harvey Oswald family immigrated to the United States and settled in Dallas, Texas in June of the same year.

In high school, when she was on the cheerleading squad, some people in the stands would shout: "Your daddy shot Kennedy" and "Good thing your daddy's dead and buried." But, mostly, she said, things were "pretty normal."
