What do you think the famous comedian Steve Harvey and a bunch of Memphis drug dealers have in common? Actually, none other than his current wife, Marjorie Bridges. Yep, Steve’s current wife of almost 12 years was allegedly previously married to two of the infamous drug dealers in Memphis.
Failed marriages
Third time really seems to be the charm, both for Steve Harvey and his wife Marjorie Bridges.The reason?Well, they both just happen to be each other’s’ third marriage.
Steve Harvey was previously married to two other women before he met Marjorie. He was married to Marcia Harvey from 1980 to 1994, and to Mary Shackelford from 1996 to 2005, with a particularly nasty and public divorce fiasco with Mary.
Marjorie Harvey seemed to be in the same boat as her husband when it came to previous marriages. Although there is no concrete evidence, it is said that Marjorie was firstly married to Jimmy Townsend who was eventually sentenced to life imprisonment for criminal charges, which as you can imagine, put a dent in their relationship.
And her bad luck seemingly persisted as her second marriage was also linked to a drug lord and criminal named Darnell Woods. They apparently had a good relationship but his constant arrests and drug dealing proved too much for Marjorie to nurture her children in. So she eventually ended up divorcing Woods after gaining the custody of her kids.
How Harvey found love
Steve and Marjorie had previously crossed paths in the early 1990s at the Memphis Comedy Club. Steve was immediately enamored by her but since he was really struggling personally and financially at the time, they lost contact.
But as fate would have it, they met again after Steve’s second divorce in 2005. They happily dated for two years and finally tied the knot in 25th June, 2007. And funnily enough, Steve actually cites his bodyguard for being the reason behind this matrimony.
Why?
Well, he just simply gave it straight to Harvey. In People magazine, Steve recalls the bodyguard saying,
“Look, the only time I’ve ever seen you happy was when you were with that woman Marjorie. Now before you go and do something stupid and marry another woman, I’m calling her.”
This sentiment seemed to have been shared by Marjorie as well.
“When Steve came back into my life, it was effortless. I only wish he’d told me what was really going on with him when we were first dating. I told him, ‘I owned my house. Honey, you wouldn’t have been homeless.’ We could have saved so much time.”
The Harvey family
Steve Harvey and Marjorie have a total of 7 children among themselves, including their step children. Marjorie has three kids from her previous marriages including daughters Lori and Morgan, and a son Jason. All of them eventually adopted Steve’s last name making them a big happy Harvey family.
And that’s not all. Marjorie’s oldest daughter Morgan is actually married to Kareem Hawthorne and has a kid. Her son also has a son Noah and daughter Rose with an American model named Amanda, making Marjorie and Steve officially grandparents. Steve Harvey has twin daughters Karli and Brandi from his first marriage and sons Wynton and Broderick Steve Jr. from his second.
