Stand-up comedian Richard Belzer, aged 71, has a history of heartbreaks and tragedies in his family. His mother, who was diagnosed with breast cancer, died when Belzer was only 18. And then his father, who was a candy and tobacco wholesaler, committed suicide when he was only 22. But this was not the end to the miseries life had in offer for him.
In the early eighties, the actor was diagnosed with testicular cancer. And though he survived the cancer back then, it is being rumored that the comedian, in his early 70s, is having another cancer scare.
The American stand-up comedian, author, and actor, who is best known for his role as John Munch on the NBC police drama series Homicide: Life on the Street and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, is worried that the old cancer might have returned, said a source close to him.
The insider, who claims to know a few important details about the thrice married actor, gave us some exclusive details on the actor’s present health condition.
The source said that despite having survived cancer twenty two years ago, the funny man was worried that the long treated disease might have bounced back again. The informant informed: “We all know Richard survived testicular cancer some twenty years ago. He is fine and healthy. But he is worried that the cancer might have struck back. His fear is genuine because he has been experiencing lumps in his testicle and he is worried that the cancer is back.”
The gossip monger further added: “Though he is not sure if it really is a cancer lump or just benign lumps, he is scared. His wife has been suggesting he visit his doctor for a diagnosis, but he doesn’t want to. His mother’s death with breast cancer and his own difficult experience with the cancer are something Richard can hardly forget.
“He is already 71 and if unluckily, the tumor in his testicle has re-grown, he does not want to spend his remaining few years in the hospital. He knows that cancer sometimes bounces back after being treated once and that there is less chances of survival if that happens.
“But testicular cancer is something less dangerous than other forms of cancer. So even if he has cancer, there is nothing to be worried about. It is Richard who is acting like a child. He does not want to go to the hospital, but his family and wife are trying their best to convince him. And they hope that things don’t get serious,” explained the source.
Belzer has been married thrice; once with Gail Susan Ross (1966–72) and next to boutique manager Dalia Danoch (1976 – 1978). His marriages with both of his former wives ended in a divorce. He later met his present wife Harlee McBride in 1981 in Los Angeles. She was a divorcee with two daughters. The couple tied the knot in 1985.
He has an estimated net worth of $16 million dollars and he has appeared in several movies and TV shows.
