Sidra Smith on 'Free Angela.'

Sidra Smith, an American casting director, and producer is one of the genius minds behind the much-acclaimed, thrilling 2012 documentary Free Angela and All Political Prisoners, based on the life of a political activist Angela Davis, which explores the explosive months Davis spent on trial for murder, kidnapping and criminal conspiracy charges in 1972. Apart from that, she is also known for cast-directing Playas Ball, 2003 sports, comedy, drama and romance movie.

Born on February 28, 1971, in New Jersey, USA, Sidra Smith is the identical twin sister of actress Tasha Smith. New Jersey born Tasha Smith is best known for playing the role of Angela Williams in the Tyler Perry movies "Why Did I Get Married?", "Why Did I Get Married Too?", and  the television series based on movies, For Better or Worse. Sidra and Tasha are nearly clones like, except for Sidra bold and bald hair that gives it off.

Sidra may not be as popular as her twin sister Tasha but she did garner fair attention for her work in Free Angela and All Political Prisoners.  In an interview with Essence in 2013, she talked about Shola Lynch came up to her about the movie and what she expects the audience will grasp from the movie,

“I’ve been following her (Shola Lynch)with this project for years and when she did Chisholm ’72 on Shirley Chisholm, I was like, ‘What’s your next project?’ She told me she had the rights to do Angela Davis’ story. I was like, ‘Oh my God if you ever need help please let me know.’ One day she literally brought her computer to my house where the first cut was stored at the time. She carried that big ‘ol Mac up four flights of steps and we watched it in my living room and it all took off from there.”

I want them (the audience) to be inspired. I want them to be inspired by Angela’s strength. The way that she held on back then and the way she allowed that to drive her to do what she’s doing today to me is amazing.”

She further talks about Angela Davis, the activist her movie is based on.

“I met Angela for the first time in Toronto and when we premiered the film at the Toronto International Film Festival last year. The second I saw her, I just hugged her. I felt like I had known her my entire life and she’s such a warm and welcoming person that I felt that it was an instant connection. We just gave each other a big hug and it was like we had been hanging for the longest time.”

Apart from casting, producing and directing, Sidra Smith is the founder and president of Gate Pass Entertainment which aims to produce innovative, multi-cultural projects such as special events, theater and live performances, independent films, television programs, documentaries, PSA’s and corporate videos.

Smith has never been in the news for dating anyone and neither have we seen her with any boyfriend of hers. While her sister’s net worth is reported to be an estimated $1.5 million, Sidra’s net worth, however, remains undisclosed.
