Rosemary Church -Biography of CNN International News Anchor Based on Atlanta

Rosemary Church is a well-known news anchor who works for CNN International at its headquarters, based in Atlanta, Georgia. She hosts CNN Newsroom alongside her British-born American co-host Errol Barnett.

Early Life and Education

Rosemary was born on November 19, 1962, in Northern Ireland. Although born in an Irish country, she has lived her lives in England and Australia. She used to live in London until her family decided to move to Australia when she was just 8 years old. Throughout her higher studies, she stayed in Australia and attended Australian National University in Canberra for her undergraduate degree – she switched from Anthropology to Media background. For her post graduation, she opted for Media and Law from the University of Canberra.

Career

53-year-old Rosemary’s career started with her participation with the Parliament House in Canberra. She worked along with National Media Liasion Service for five years. Alongside, she also anchored for Channel Ten – weekend news bulletin service. Furthermore, she worked as a media officer and speechwriter for a member of Federal Parliament in 1984.

In 1991, she joined ABC-TV, as a reporter and a news anchor for evening news bulletin in Tasmania. She also hosted the summer program of ABCTV’s World Afternoon program.

Before joining the CNN team, she was the Senior Anchor for Australia Television for five years. She landed into CNN after she made up a tape for herself, flew to Atlanta for the audition and in 1998, she was offered a job there.

At present, Rosemary can be seen throughout Europe, African, and the Middle East on CNN International. In the afternoons in Australia and Asia, she anchors for CNN Newsroom, Monday to Thursday.

Church, who has had more than 25 years of experience with anchoring global events, has reported for major news events starting from the ISIS killings in Syria and Iraq; fight against Ebola Virus; search for Malaysian Airlines; the Arab Spring; capture and death of Osama Bin Laden and the 9/11 attack.

Furthermore, on March 2011, just as she was about to start her show, the sudden news of the earthquake in Japan led her to report for four long hours about the breaking news event. She also reported for the 2010 Haiti earthquake, Chile’s earthquake – leading to Tsunami, volcano eruption in Iceland etc.

Awards received

Rosemary Chruch, along with her contemporaries managed to win the best Short News Report category award at 2014 Association for International Broadcasting in London with their coverage on turbulence in Ukraine. Also, in the same year, they were honored with the prominent Nymph Award for best 24 hour News Program at Monte Carlo Television Festival, Monaco.

In 1997, she was provided with New York Festival's TV programming award for reporting and covering for the handover of Hongkong to China.  

She has also been nominated for an Emmy Award in News and Documentary category for Outstanding Live Coverage of a Current Story. 

Personal Life

Awarding winning anchor Rosemary has been married to her husband Patrick O’Byrne, who works in a wine industry in Atlanta, since 21 years now. The couple tied the knot in 1995 and they have three beautiful children together – a daughter named Madeline and 11-year old twins named Hannah and James. They live in Buckhead, Atlanta. The family has two dods named Betsy and Dexter with whom the children love to play with

Being an anchor to such a worldwide news company, Church leaves for work after her children have had their dinner and gone to bed.  She spends as much time as she can after her children get back from school – homework, volleyball, soccer, piano and baseball. It is her husband who takes their kids to school. She returns home at 5 in the morning and she has only an hour to be with her husband.

Being born in Ireland, lived in London for a short while and moved to Australia, she doesn’t call herself either English or Australian. In her free time, she likes to read books to keep her mind off and hits the gym for fitness.
