Tony Pulis sacked after 29 percent win rate at West Brom

Pulis sacked after Chelsea defeat

Joined the Baggies as a head coach in January 2015, Tony Pulis was shown the door by the new Chinese boss Guochuan Lai after a series of defeats this season. The huge defeat to this year’s premier title contender Chelsea led to the club’s decision. The Welshman secured only two wins for the Throstles this season with a total of 6 defeats and 4 draws.

The club stated this on their official website saying “We are in a results business and over the back end of last season and this season to date, ours have been very disappointing.”

Pulis lead the club to 10th position in the last season securing 45 points with a GD of -8. However, this season has become a different story for the club as it is only a point away from relegation. Following his sacking, the club has appointed its Assistant Head Coach Gary Megson. He will be the interim Head Coach until further notice.

Tony Pulis Sacked

The Baggies fans had been throwing the ‘Pulis out’ chant for some weeks as the manager had been unable to take the club to a single win since their last win against Accrington Stanley. The goals of Alvaro Morata, Marcos Alonso added with the brace of Eden Hazard put his managerial position at risk.

Tony’s previous tweet “2 games to save my career, we face @ChelseaFC and @SpursOfficial cheers #wba” suggests that the gaffer knew before, that his sacking was in place. The coach was sacked for his poor performance against the 2016 title winners. Even though, he believed to get a chance for 2 games, he didn't.

Following the defeat to Chelsea, the former head coach uttered, “The defending was poor for their goals and the lads switched off at decisive moments for us and it cost us dearly.”

All in all, the manager has pretty good records with his former clubs with a winning average of 39%. Pulis will surely go long before his retirement.
