The Good Wife's Eli Gold.

If you’ve been an avid follower of CBS’s political drama “The Good Wife”, you’ve definitely been an admirer of the very quirky Eli Gold despite his blunt and often rude ways. Eli Gold, played by Alan Cumming, is Peter Florrick's campaign manager who is later appointed as his Chief of Staff.

The Guardian cited Eli Gold as,

“He is a slimeball, a bully, and a master manipulator – but he is also a loyal friend. He is the friend I’d want if I were ever in a tight spot.”

Born Jewish but the not-so-religious Eli Gold is a campaign strategist and crisis manager who consults for Peter Florrick (the cheating disgrace of a husband) when he considers a return to office. Eli believes that securing the support of Peter's wife Alicia is crucial to any ambitions he may harbor, and he quickly realizes that Alicia is no pushover and his usual wife-coddling techniques will not work when it comes to her. Eli seems genuinely invested in Peter Florrick and respects both he and Alicia, although she is often a frustrating enigma to him.

Talking about his personal life, he is a much and has a daughter named Marissa Gold with his former wife. He has a pretty fun and healthy relationship with his daughter Marissa who happens to be a lot like her father. He has a short-lived romance with Natalie Flores, a student who worked in the past as a nanny for Wendy Scott-Carr. Eli leaks details of Natalie's family's status as illegal immigrants to the press, but as he comes to know her he is seen to regret his initial act and later helps her get a job as an intern at Lockhart & Gardner.Eli Gold’s character is rumored to be loosely based on Chicago politician Rahm Emanuel, former chief of staff of president Barack Obama.

Born in Perthshire, Scotland, Cumming describes his childhood as troublesome, having gone through emotional and physical violence his father inflicted on him. Apparently Alan learned more than pain from this traumatic experience and says it taught him how to act by "needing to suppress my own emotions and feelings around him [his father] when I was a little boy.” Quotes Alan.

Cumming made his film debut in Gillies MacKinnon's Passing Glory. Cumming has worked in movies like Circle of Friends, the James Bond film GoldenEye, Emma, Romie & Michelle’s High School Reunion. Cumming co-wrote, co-directed, co-produced, and co-starred in the ensemble film The Anniversary Party with a friend and former Cabaret co-star Jennifer Jason Leigh, in 2001 which garnered a National Board of Review award.
