The bizzare controversies surrounding World 25 ranking tennis star Bernard Tomic: on-court fights, arrests and dating life

Bernard Tomic is known as the bad boy of Australian tennis. The rising star of the world tennis, aged 22, is famous for his bizarre actions and arrogance which has earned him the aforementioned title.

The athlete seemed to have some connection with the term ‘bizarre’. He was arrested last month for disturbing his whole neighborhood with a drunken party. According to officials he was caught in a very bizarre condition, he was half naked, he was dressed down not up. Next would be his bizarre clash with the Tennis Australia.

The bizarre events continued as this world no. 25 Australian tennis player went out of the Citi Open last week after losing a match to American world no. 55 Steve Johnson.

The match that was held last week saw Tomic being beaten by Johnson. Tomic challenged a point he won during the match. During the third and the deciding set, Tomic was trailing 0-2 when Johnson hit a deep groundstroke that was called out by the line.

In the unusual match, Tomic gestured twice that he was challenging the call to the chair umpire, who in turn refused to review the point.

“Challenge it, Steve,” Tomic is heard yelling to his opponent.

And the replays confirmed the ball caught a good chunk of the baseline, and was incorrectly called out.

The player exchanged several unusual exchanges with his opponent and seemed to smile when his chances of winning the game slipped from his hand.

However Tomic lost to Johnson 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 in a match that surprised and confused the audiences.

After the loss Twitter was flooded with thousands of tweets that shamed the Australian professional.

The match was his first since the tennis star was arrested in his $10,000 per night penthouse apartment in Miami by the local police last month. The police department called him ‘aggressive and belligerent’. The reason: he acted stubbornly when asked to turn down the volume of his music.

He was said to be very aggressive and drunk at the moment when the police reached his apartment. But after the arrest, the 22 year old athlete apologized and even said that he had learned a lesson.

After the arrest, the young man was charged after 5:00 am the very next morning and as a penalty, Tomic had to spend his day sobering up in a local correctional center along with a fine of $2,000.

The arrest took place when the hotel securities received a complaint from Tomic’s neighbors in the early morning about the loud and drunken party in Tomic’s penthouse. But things went out of hands when Tomic closed the door on the guards after pointing his finger aggressively towards them and continued to play loud music, so the police authorities were called in to intervene.

Tomic was said to be intoxicated at the time of his arrest.

It has been said that Tomic had regretted the incident.

This is not the end of the controversies, Tomic made headlines last year when he clashed with Tennis Australia and lashed out on them during a press meet after his loss to Novak Djokovic in the third round of Wimbledon. He ranted how TA no longer funded him and his sister and it was the main reason behind his loss.

The athlete who is number 25 on the world tennis ranking has dated Gold Coast model girlfriend Donay Meijer from -2011 to 2012. The tennis player was also dating law student Chelsey Grbcic from early 2013 but they split the same year.

The 6.5 ft. tall Tomic has indeed got a height of an athlete but his reckless behavior seems to heighten controversies related to his private life rather than his professional life.
