San Antonio Spurs Assistant Coach Becky Hammon Qualified to NBA Head Coach

Becky Hammon is qualified enough to NBA head coach of a team and San Antonio Spurs head coach support the idea.

San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich will be replaced by Ettore Messina to coach Game 3 vs. Golden State Warriors. The decision was taken following the death of Popovich wife Erin death.

Though Becky Hammon was not selected to lead the current match against Golden State Warriors, Popovich believes her assistant Hamon will make history in NBA someday. He says she is qualified enough to lead an NBA franchise and it's just a matter of when.

Popovich a great coach in NBA history think so. Even the biggest name in NBA LeBron James, think so. And the commissioner of the NBA Adam Silver has repeatedly said it.

But the people who are not convinced of the idea are the key people, the executives of 3 teams Charlotte, Knicks, and Orlando who officially have coaching openings. And not a single time Hammon’s name has been called for these openings.

On Thursday Adam Silver in his annual meeting said: “I think she should be a candidate for any team that does have openings.” He also thinks that she has done an excellent job by inspiring a lot of women’s with her breakthrough career.

Hammon is highly respected for her contribution to Spurs. She has spent 4 seasons under the tutelage of Popovich and has more coaching experience than Jerry Stackhouse. But Stackhouse who has coached G League for 2 years and remained Raptors assistant for a year has been forwarded as a candidate for all three opening.

It doesn’t mean that Stackhouse is not capable of coaching but just want to illustrate how much higher the bar is for Hammon.
