Designboom spoke to him about his design and influences.

“I wasn’t really looking to become a graphic designer and in fact I wasn’t – until the ripe old age of 26! graphic design is a second career for me, I have a degree in sociology, and taught that for a few years, then somewhat by chance, I took a two-week summer workshop at the university of arizona – about this thing called ‘graphic design’. it changed everything. I hadn’t even known the term graphic design before then. a great instructor, and good friend to this day, jackson boelts – helped me take the first steps on this fantastic journey – one I could have never imagined”, he says when asked about his motivation to becoming a graphic designer.

He further adds “I feel I’m the most fortunate designer on the planet. as a result of this career choice, well passion really, I had no choice once I had discovered it! over twenty five years later I’ve visited and lectured all over the world, had numerous exhibitions, books and received notable awards, and all because I found something I was passionate about, and pursued it, without ever looking back. I found something that never felt like work. I’ve always said I make my living from my hobby”.

As for we know from the interview, he is enjoying his career and achievement. He knows his life’s worth. His contributions are something that must be appreciated and such talent are rare these days.

David Carson is an American designer, art director and surfer. He is best known for his innovative magazine designs. He started the innovative use of experimental typography. He is the art director for the magazine Ray Gun, in which he employed much of the typographic layout style for which he is known. In particular, his widely imitated aesthetic, defined the so called ‘grunge typography’ era. Especially, the youth were quite after that and it was a great hit.

He is a kind of person who continues to explore the possibilities of graphic design, particularly typography as a form of expression across print and video for both commercial and cultural clients.

In 2014, he received the AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts) gold medal and was named as one of apple’s 30 most innovative designers in their 30 years history. Only two graphic designers were chosen. He shared that that was his most proud moment as they called them ‘pioneers with profound impact’.

He is a married man and a father of three children.

The net worth of Carson is reported to be $30 million.
