MMA fighter Jake Ellenberger knocked out by Stephen Thompson, Twitter reacts to Jake's 'defeat'

In a match that was supposed to be a total lockdown, Jake Ellenberger was knocked down twice by a pair of spinning hook kicks from Stephen Thompson, whose wrestling also kept him out of danger after a punch had knocked him down. The welterweight bout was the main event of TUF 21 Finale event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It was aired on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. Ellenberger, a wrestler who stands at a height of 1.83m, was of heavier weight and was expected to put a fine match against Thompson. However, the loss was the 4th one for Ellenberger in his last five outings.

Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Jacob Steven "Jake" Ellenberger is an American mixed martial artist and former United States Marine. Ellenberger is currently signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, fighting in the Welterweight division. A professional competitor since 2005, Ellenberger has also formerly competed for the Quad Cities Silverbacks of the IFL, Bodog Fight, and King of the Cage. As of May 7th, 2015, he is #9 in official UFC welterweight rankings.

After starting his career with a 10-0 record, Joe was diagnosed with an extremely rare blood disease called Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria when he was 24 years old. Some estimates suggest that roughly half of the people diagnosed with PNH die within 10 years of their diagnosis. Joe still corners his brother's fights and is a huge inspiration for Jake. Both Jake and Joe were very athletic growing up. Jacob began training for MMA when he saw his friend fight for the welterweight title in the Victory Fighting Championships. He studied psychology at the University of Nebraska-Omaha for three years and was on the school's Division II wrestling team.

Ellenberger, who is now at age of 30, was back in a UFC main event for the first time since 2012 as the welterweight veteran attempted to improve his number nine ranking by defeating Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. Well, that didn’t go as planned. In what was supposed to be an interesting clash of styles, the dynamic striking of Thompson got the upper hand as the blunt force and wrestling attack of Ellenberger was easily counterattacked. The spinning hook kick was enough to win the match and the twitter network was flooded with posts regarding the matchup as fans and pundits reacted to the match.

Nearing his prime, Ellenberger’s personal life seems to be going fine. He was in news for the past few years as he was dating Jordan McDonald, who is also a martial arts fighter and also a fine model. Sadly, the two broke up at the start of 2015.

But as they say, a lover finds another lover, Ellenberger has found a new girlfriend in Mackenzie Rebecca Fike. Rebecca graduated in 1997 from Parker High School in Parker, AZ and works at the dentist clinic for adults and children in California. How the two met is unknown. Nonetheless, looking at her Instagram account, they seem to be having fun.
