Vega is a Columbian beauty who was crowned as Miss Universe 2014 in January this year. The 22 year old model and beauty queen’s life seems fabulous from the outside. People may think that Vega is having a time of her life with that glittering crown on her head. Yes, she is. But besides having fun, the lucky girl has had whole lot of responsibilities on her back as soon as that crown was placed on her head.
Vega won the prestigious title beating other 87 gorgeous girls from around the world after a tough competition. She won everyone’s heart with her pure beauty and undeniable talent at the FIU Arena, Miami, Florida. She became the first woman from Colombia in 56 years to bag the crown after Luz Marina Zuluaga, who won in 1958. The beauty with the brain easily impressed all the judges and ultimately became the winner.
As we told you before, as soon as you get hold of power, you are responsible to change the world. And Vega ventured out in a similar quest. Vega won the new crown designed by Diamonds International Corporation, a Czech-based jeweler officially responsible for Miss Universe jewelry and she also got a load of surprising gifts; cash, a year contract promoting Miss Universe , world travel, a rent-free luxury apartment in New York City, a gift hamper containing designer shoes, dresses and beauty products, a US$100.000 stipend for a two year course at The New York Film Academy, and free access to famous fashion houses and beauty parlors. Besides all the luxurious offers, Vega as the Miss Universe would be responsible for several humanitarian works.
She is a family oriented person and her friends and family have always been her first priority. But for a year or so, the beauty queen has to sacrifice her family life to be with the families of those who have endured much pain and sorrow in their lives. Vega, as a part of her work, will be visiting different parts of the world. She has also planned to spend her year long tenure as the queen of the Universe by lecturing on humanitarian issues and to promote education regards HIV/AIDS. She is a beauty who believes that a woman should possess intelligence along with beauty.
Vega also met the Colombian President and his wife last April at the Presidential Palace for a welcoming ceremony where she was appointed as the ambassador to fight against child malnutrition. She also became a volunteer at Gay Men's Health Crisis where she served meals to people living with HIV and AIDS. She took part in the Colombian Day parade in New York City on July 27.
As a part of her campaign with the pageant, she has already travelled several countries like the Bahamas, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Ecuador, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Kazakhstan and USA and she is all set to visit South Africa, and United Arab Emirates pretty soon. So, looks like this young and talented lady is really living up to the mark.
In her mission to change the world, Vega has been away from her family for a long time. The Universidad Javeriana alum in Business Administration was crowned in front of her parents, her six siblings and her hot boyfriend, Alejandro Calderon. But unfortunately, the model is so busy that she does not have time for her handsome boyfriend. The couple has been dating each other for two years and they are very much in love. In one of her interviews, Vega admitted how she missed her businessman beau and her family during the trips.
But in spite of the distance, the pair is very much in love with each other. The gorgeous beauty, with a height of 5 feet 10 inches, is happy with her boyfriend. But they do not have any plans of getting married as both of them are too young and they have a long career ahead of them. The Miss Universe, besides ruling the entire Universe with her beauty and charm, is very much active on Twitter and Instagram. She has the estimated net worth of $5 million.
