Mike Metzger, Godfather of Freestyle Motocross. Is He Still On Dirt Bike and Helmet after Injury?

Each and every one of us know who Alice is, right? Umm.. The one from the wonderland; now you know, huh.. But do you know before she got to the wonderland, she had to literally fall in the pit. Thus, my point is; in order to succeed in life, you need to at least fall once in a while or fail twice or more. Likewise, with that being said, I get Mike Metzger in my mind. He is popular for being the Godfather of Freestyle Motocross. The way he stands even after all those injuries is the reason for who he is today. However, he is more into Mountain Bikes these days than Dirt Bikes. Let us find out.

Mike Metzger and his Mountain Bike

After the fatal injury in 2011, he didn’t really quit the show; however, he is seen more with his Mountain Bikes these days. Is it because of the crash? We might not know the reason behind the scene, though. But even with his mountain bike, Mike still attempts those dangerous flips. He says, “The thing that I like about my mountain bike, especially going up on the chairlifts, is just the peace you get, away from every day running around and chaos that life gives you”. So; maybe this is the reason why he chose mountain bikes over dirt bikes. Currently, he rides the ‘Foes Hydro H2’ handcrafted by Brent Foes himself.

Mike Metzger with his Dirt Bike and his Serious Crash

Mike is one of the personalities who started messing with BMX-inspired tricks on Motocross Bikes. On his first X Game appearance, Mike managed to hold the second place alongside Pastrana who finished first. In 2002, he won the Following that event, he started practicing in the dunes by his house thinking about bringing the backflip to X games in Philadelphia. Everything went smooth until one day when a training crash forced him to get off X games in Los Angeles back in 2011; with two broken collarbones, a lacerated Kidney, broken Vertebrae in his back and neck, and having serious liver complications.

Mike Metzger Success

Mike Metzger was born on November 19th, 1975; in Huntington Beach, California. He is an American Freestyle rider who won the 2002 X-Games and Big Air events in both 2002 and 2003. Mike was able to earn $100,000 in just 3 days. In 2006, he completed “The Impossible Jump” attempting a world record backflip over the fountains in Las Vegas. With that, he became the second person to ever successfully land the impossible Jump. As a result of all the support he earned, Mike appeared on a 2002 Motocross racing video game with his picture on the cover of Game’s Box. Nonetheless, he is a 5 times X-Games medalist, 3 Gold and 2 Silver.

Mike Metzger early life

Mike learned riding at the age of 3 and started racing motocross when he turned 6. Metzger confirms of a fact that he got his first Mountain Bike when he was studying in 8th grade. Mike started racing downhill Mountain Bikes back in 1993. During that period, he worked as a graphic designer for a mountain bike gear company in Big Bear. The following year, he got picked to be on Intense Cycles first downhill team. In 1986; after the movie ‘Rad’ was released,  he stated that it was his first time seeing anybody do a backflip on a BMX; which he later thought, “That is what I am going to do, flip my motorcycle”.
