Mark Rylance on Spielberg's The BFG.

Mark Rylance will portray the beloved big friendly giant in Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic children’s novel, The BFG.

Oscar winner Rylance has been revealed as the giant only in the second teaser which released on April 5, 2016.

The first teaser released in December stops just short of revealing the character giving a good look at the giant’s hand.

The BFG tells the story of young orphaned girl Sophie portrayed by Ruby Barnhill who gets kidnapped by the Big Friendly Giant for a grand adventure.  She is taken to the magical land to accompany his loneliness and to help him on a mission to capture the evil man-eating giants who have been attacking the human world.

The 56-year-old actor was cast in the title role of the upcoming movie on October 2014. Performance capture technology has been used to bring life to the big friendly giant in the Spielberg’s movie.

Director Spielberg was quoted saying:

"Mark Rylance is a transformational actor. I am excited and thrilled that Mark will be making this journey with us to Giant Country. Everything about his career so far is about making the courageous choice and I'm honored he has chosen The BFG as his next big screen performance."

Rylance and Spielberg have collaborated for the second time to make a movie suited for all the family. Earlier, the pair had joined forces in the 2015 Oscar winning movie Bridge of Spies.

The 2016 movie The BFG also stars Penelope Wilton, Rebecca Hall, Bill Hader, Jemaine Clement, Rafe Spall, Michael David Adamthwaite, Daniel Bacon, Chris Gibbs, Adam Godley, Jonathan Holmes, Paul Moinz de Sa and Olafur Olafsson.

Written by the late Melissa Mathison, The BFG is scheduled to be released on June 30 in Australia, July 1 in the US and July 22 in the UK through Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
