Looking back: Madeline Brewer's role as lesbian prison inmate Tricia Miller in OITNB

Madeline Brewer’s character in Netflix’s American drama series “Orange is the New Black’ might be dead but the image of her role as Tricia Miller in the hit series has left a very deep impression on every one of us. Let’s talk about every one’s favorite character Tricia who died young.  If you haven’t watched any episode of the popular series then spoilers alert.

Tricia Miller is one of the inmates in the prison who grew up on the streets. She is also the youngest prisoner and is addicted to drugs. Despite being straight in real life, Madeline portrays the role of a lesbian who is in love with another inmate named Mercy. She has cool blonde cornrows that took 20 minutes to apply and were applied every time she came to set. She has a tattoo on her throat.

This cornrows junkie has kleptomania which is a disease where you steal from others and promise yourself to pay back later. Tricia kept a journal with a list of all the things she ever stole with the intention of settling all her debts when she had the money.

She tries to set drugs on her girlfriend Mercy's bunk with a hope of getting more time to spend with her but ultimately fights back the urge and lets her girlfriend get released. She tries her best to appeal to get out of the prison faster so that she would be with Mercy.

Tricia dies due to the drug overdose in an episode called “Bora, Bora, Bora” and that was a very painful moment. Many of her fans hadn’t expected that to happen. Not even Madeline herself.

Bora Bora Bora is one of the best episodes of OITNB with a very tragic ending. It is one of most memorable episodes of OITNB because of Tricia’s tragic ending. Many of the viewers and Madeline’s fans wished that she had stayed. We know that Tricia Miller was a troubled girl with a drug addiction but she was also on her way to sobriety. Her death broke several hearts and brought tears to everybody’s eyes.

Madeline aged 23 who brought life to Tricia’s character shed tears in an interview with Kobsupang Robertson while talking about OITNB and her fans and how she cherishes every tweets from them in her Twitter handle.

She said, “I honestly just feel like I try to get back to those who show me love and I just want to get back because they don’t know how much it means to me, every single message, every single tweet, when someone said just want to let you know I love Tricia, I love your character… I love the show… It hits me deeply…”

The former “Miss Pitman” was really heartbroken when she had to leave the show after 7 episodes. Talking to Nylon.com she revealed how she knew about the upcoming death of her character.

“I found out while we were filming Episode 9 (Tricia overdoses in episode 10). I was sitting at home in New Jersey when I received an email from the show's creator, Jenji Kohan. I remember thinking, "Holy crap why is Jenji Kohan emailing ME?" When I saw how long the note was, I knew what was coming. I was shocked and grateful that Jenji would take the time to write to me personally and explain why they made the decision. The news was bittersweet because I also learned that we would film flashback scenes for Tricia, which I loved. Those scenes gave Tricia a lot of humanity and showed viewers that she wasn't just a criminal with a drug addiction. But it was hard saying goodbye. I loved Tricia and I still miss her.”

That’s so brave of her, isn’t it? It must have been very difficult for her to face what was coming and she faced it calmly. The sad part is that the Hemlock Grove star went back to waitressing right after shooting season one of OITNB.

But the good news is this skilled and classically trained singer has been auditioning for many roles. This small town girl has a boyfriend whom she knew since 2nd grade. They have been dating from a long time. She also has plans to work on music sometime soon and we hope to see this hot actress in a TV show very soon.
