Lebo Diseko - Biography - BBC Reporter Since 2003

Synopsis

Lebo Diseko is a media person working for BBC from more than 10 years. She graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand and did her post-graduation from the University of Westminster. Lebo Diseko started his professional career as an account manager in Durrant's Press Cuttings, then gradually went to BBC and covered many major events of the world. During her time in BBC, she was specialised for BBC Focus on Africa TV. 

Education and Career Beginning

Lebo Diseko finished her Bachelors of Arts (B.A) in International Relations & African Political Studies, from the University of the Witwatersrand from 1996 to 1998. Then he did his postgraduate diploma in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Westminster.

Lebo Diseko started his professional career as an account manager in Durrants Press Cuttings. She then worked for two years for new media sales executive for Vacher Dod Publishing. In the year 2003 she entered BBC as a freelance broadcast Journalist and worked for seven months for another seven months she was a broadcast assistant for BBC Three 7 O'clock News where her main task was to research and write.

Lebo Diseko then got promoted to a broadcast journalist in BBC London were her main role was producing and reporting. 

Lebo Diseko for some time she was self-employed as a freelance reporter in South Africa. She reported for local and international media outlets and got the opportunity of reporting for CNN's Inside Africa programme on South Africa's first black female winemaker.  From 2010 to 2012 she was specialised in stories about South Africa and did a regular reporting and production for the BBC World Service, CNN and ITN.  Before that, she was Tri-media reporter for two years and nine months for BBC London.

Major stories by Lebo Diseko 

Being in BBC London Lebo Diseko provided the coverage of the 2005 general election, London's 2012 Olympic bid, the wedding of Prince Charles and the July 7th bomb attacks of London. When she was back to BBC in 2012 after being a freelancer for a certain year she was assigned for  BBC Focus on Africa TV which made the coverage of the Marikana shootings. She also covered the breaking news of the terror attack in Grenoble, France, Nigeria's 2015 elections, ebola breakout and the fight against Boko Haram.

Back to BBC again…

Lebo Diseko rejoined BBC New from September 2012; she worked as a multimedia journalist that was BBC Focus on Africa TV which made the coverage of the Marikana shootings. Then after two years she became a presenter, reporter, and producer and did regular BBC World News bulletins as well as the flagship Asia breakfast programme Newsday. 

Lebo Diseko recently is a presenter at BBC News from March 2016.

Lebo Diseko is a very passionate media person who was born in South Africa. She did her bachelor's from the University of the Witwatersrand which is located in South Africa and then moved to London for her post graduate degree in the University of Westminster.
