Katherine Anne ‘Katie’ Couric is an American Journalist and an author. She has worked for all the big three TV networks in the United States of America which is ‘NBC News’, ‘CBS News’ and ‘ABC News’.

Synopsis

Katie Couric was brought up in Arlington, U.S. She studied at the University of Virginia. At present, she is a Journalist and hosts several major shows in United States. Her salary is estimated to be around $10 Million. Concerning her married life, she was married to Jay Monahan from 1989 to 1998; and John Molner in 2014. She has 2 daughters named Elinor Monahan and Caroline Monahan. Till the date, she has written 4 books.

Early Life and Education

She was born on January 7th, 1957; in Arlington, Virginia, United States of America; to Elinor Tullie (Mother) and John Martin Couric (Father). She was raised as a Presbyterian (denoting a Christian Church). Katie attended Arlington Public School as an Elementary student, Williamsburg Middle School and Yorktown High School. During her times at Yorktown High school, she used to be a cheerleader; and was an intern at Washington, D.C. all-news radio station.

After High School, she went to the University of Virginia in 1975 when she was 18 years old. Over there, she worked for the school newspaper called ‘The Cavalier Daily’ and participated in many other college programs. During her 4th year at college, she was selected to live as a Senior Resident of the Lawn. Later in 1979, she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in American Studies.

Career

Right after college, she joined the ABC News Bureau in Washington, D.C. in 1979. Not so long after ABC, Katie joined CNN as an assignment editor. During 1984 and 1986, she worked for WTVJ in Florida as a general-assignment reporter. Then, she joined WRC-TV which is owned by NBC in Washington, D.C.; and that earned her an Emmy and an Associated Press Award. 

Katie Couric joined NBC News as a Deputy Pentagon Correspondent in 1989. During her times in 1989 and 1991, she was an anchor substitute. She also subbed for John Palmer, Daniels and Norville as the news anchor on ‘Today’ and then became permanent on April 5th, 1991; when Norville left.

She continued at ‘NBC’ and ‘Today’ for 15 years until May 31st, 2006. Later, she announced that she would be joining CBS to anchor the CBS Evening News. Some of her great works include, she hosted ‘Everybody’s Business: America’s Children’ in 1995’, ‘Legend to Legend Night: A Celebrity Cavalcade’ in 1993, Harry Potter: Behind the Magic’ in 2001 and more. 

She made her appearances on all 3 major TV morning shows which are CBS’s Early Show, NBC’s Today and ABC’s Good Morning America. She moved to CBS Evening News in 2006 until 2011 where she managed to earn $15 Million per year. During the period, Katie was a 60 minutes correspondent where she contributed 6 to 8 stories per year. From 2009 to 2011, she hosted one-hour interview program on CBSNews.com. Over there, she interviewed popular faces like ‘Michelle Obama’, ‘Justin Bieber’, ‘Daniel Radcliffe’, ‘Drew Brees’ and several more.

Katie Couric returned to ABC News in 2011 until 2013 where she was a special correspondent. During 2012 and 2014, she hosted a talk show called ‘Katie’ and the first episode aired on September 10th, 2012. In November 2013, Marissa Mayer (CEO of Yahoo!) announced that she had hired Katie as a Global Anchor of Yahoo! News.

Personal Life

Katie Couric was married to Jay Monahan in 1989 and together they gave birth to their first daughter named ‘Elinor Tully ‘Ellie’ Monahan in 1991. Their second daughter, Caroline was born in New York City in 1996. But Katie had to go through a tragic loss when her husband died of Colon Cancer in 1998 at the age 42. Following the tragedy, she then became a spokesperson for Colon Cancer awareness.

She has 3 siblings named ‘Emily Couric (Sister), ‘Clara Couric (Sister)’ and John M. Couric (brother)’. Later in September 2013, she got engaged to ‘John Molner’, who is a Financier’ after 2 years of relationship. They married at ‘The Hamptons’ on June 21st, 2014.
