John Hillerman Dies at the age of 84; Quick Glance at his Career and Awards

American actor, John Benedict Hillerman aka John Hillerman, is no longer with us. A Texas-born actor who is remembered as Jonathan Quayle Higgins on the television show Magnum, P.I died on November 9 at the age of 84.

Hillerman grabbed five Golden Globe nominations, won in 1981, and four Emmy nominations winning in 1987. In 1999, he took a break from his acting career.

John Hillerman who is best remembered as the stuffy English foil Higgins on the hit 1980s television series Magnum, P.I died at his house in Houston. He was 84 years old and passed away on November 9, Thursday.

A spokeswoman, Lori De Waal claimed that the cause of his death is still yet to be determined.

Hillerman was a theater stalwart before being one of the versatile Hollywood character actors. His acting skills got widely recognized after appearing as Jonathan Quayle Higgins III on Magnum, P.I that aired on CBS from 1980 to eight years long.

Besides this, Hillerman also appeared as Higgins on the couple of episodes of Murder, Simon & Simon, and She Wrote. Actually, the Higgins character was a natural extension of the part he played as the TV detected on the show Ellery Queen.

We can also remember him for his character on the 1977-1978 sitcom The Betty White Show where he appeared as the star's director and former spouse, as Sandy Duncan's father on Valerie's Family: The Hogans and as Bonnie Franklin's stuffy boss Mr. Connors on One Day at a Time.

Hillerman gained his first onscreen credit in the year 1971 in the 1971 Western Lawman. In the same year, he acted in a small role as a teacher in Peter Bogdanovich's The Last Picture Show.

He even appeared for the director in Long last Love (1975), Paper Moon (1973), and What's Up, Doc? (1972). He performed on Blazing Saddles (1974),  Chinatown (1974), High Plains Drifter (1973), Lucky Lady (1975), Audrey Rose (1977), History of the World: Part I (1981), and A Very Brady Sequel in 1996.
