When Sam Philips introduced Joe to Nancy, it was their destiny. Joe was previously married to Morgan Kester in 1979 but soon got divorced six years later in 1985. But when Joe and Nancy met, it was as if their relation was made in the stars. They got married in 1994 and they have two children- Danielle and Isabella. From his marriage to Morgan, he has a daughter and also a step daughter.

His role as Cypher in The Matrix (1999) and as Teddy in Memento (2000) were greatly praised.
