Jarryd Hayne quitting NFL so he can pursue his dream of competing in the Olympics.

"I am retiring from the NFL because the Fiji Rugby Sevens team reached out to me about the opportunity to join the team for the upcoming Olympics, and I simply could not pass that chance up," Hayne said in a statement. The Olympics has been something I have admired since I was a little boy, and it is an opportunity I feel very similar to me joining the NFL.”

It seems the Australian is quitting his team San Francisco 49ers and planning to play rugby sevens for Fiji at the Rio Olympics. Jarryd Hayne's decision came on the official 49ers website.

“I am retiring from the NFL because the Fiji rugby sevens team reached out to me about the opportunity to join the team for the upcoming Olympics, and I simply could not pass that chance up."

"He achieved everything he could at the 49ers," said his manager, Wayne Beavis.

Hayne thanked his team for all the development that they made possible for him and bid them farewell. "The past 12 months with the San Francisco 49ers have been absolutely incredible. I could not have predicted how far I have come as an NFL player. To not only be able to play in a game but also say that I started a game in the NFL is something that I will remember for a lifetime."

Despite wanting to follow his dreams, it is not certain that Hayne will be able to play in Fiji. There are still some eligibility issues that needs to be taken care of. Since the level of the game is said to be much higher, there is no certainty that he will have quality for the 12-man-roster. Another instanceNFL is not a World Anti-Doping Agency compliant sport, meaning he would not qualify under the Olympics' drug testing regulations.

"I have no promises he is going to make the 12, but we will see how he goes. He will then come into Fijian camp for the Olympic period. It is a huge challenge for Jarryd but if he gets into the squad it is only going to be on form, because he is a blinding rugby player. If he doesn't make it, is just shows how good this Fijian sevens side is” said the Fiji  head coach Ben Ryan.

Whatever event might unfold, we hope Hayne best of luck.
