In 2002, Nilda also breathed her last breath when she slipped and fell from a 14th-story window and dropped to death. As per reports, her official cause of death was severe head trauma due to the fall.

She died before the final cut of the documentary "EI Cantante." The documentary shows the life of singer Hector from the view of his wife, Nilda Lavoe. Through the documentary, Hector's professional life and his relationship with Nilda were featured.

Just nine years before her death, she experienced the tragic death of her husband due to complications from AIDS.

Did They Share Any Children?

Well, talking about their children, the late couple shared a son together named Hector Jr. He was born on September 25, 1969; however, their son died before both of them. In fact, it is said that his own friend killed him.

While some of the sources claim that it was an accident as his friend had a loaded gun and mistakenly, the gun misfired, killing Lavoe Jr. . To this day, the fact of his death has not been proven properly yet. The gunshot is taken by some as a thought-out attempt to murder Lavoe. 

Moreover, Hector also adopted Puchi's Daughter Leslie whom he gave his last name after her adoption.

How Did Hector Die?

The late singer passed away on June 29, 1993, at Saint Clare's Hospital due to complications from AIDS. Lavoe was 46 years old at the time of his death. The news made headlines instantly, and it devasted many people worldwide.

The salsa singer was previously buried in Saint Raymond's Cemetery located in the Bronx, but his and his son's remains were dug out and reburied in his native Ponce alongside his wife, Nilda. The family of three is resting in peace at the Cementerio Civil de Ponce, located in the Portugues Urbano neighborhood.

Hector began his career in 1967 with Willie Colon Orchestra's debut studio album El Malo. He performed with the band until 1975. 

The same year, he began his solo career with his debut album La Voz. He went on to release hit albums like De Ti Depende, Comedia, Recordando a Felipe Pirela, El Sabio, Revento, and Strikes Back. 

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Lavoe was worth around $1 million at the time of his death in 1993. All of his income came from his professional career as a singer. He had released numerous hit songs that must have helped him earn a good sum of money.
