Football Manager Dick Advocaat upsets Sunderland fans with a terrible preseason

He did manage the club for only around two months- nine games to be precise. And the way the team progressed, given they survived the relegation, it was sad for Sunderland fans when Dick Advocaat had announced that he would not be signing an extension. A former player himself, the Dutch manager had promised his wife he would not be staying in England after the season ended. But after his wife supported his decision, Advocaat will now be leading the Black Cats to the Premier League hoping they finish well above relegation.

After the married man was allowed to stay for one more year, Sunderland fans decided to thank his wife by sending her flowers. Well, fans raised well over 2000 euros and since the amount is way more for some flowers, they then decided to donate the remaining money to charity.

Fans however are currently not happy; given the team has had an awful pre-season. Losing three out of five games, which included a shocking 2-0 loss to Doncaster Rovers, Advocaat has surely been looking at the squads weak points. Although preseason results seldom pave how a season undergoes, it is the time where coaches usually implement new tactics. But what has been disappointing is the lacklustre performance of the side, with no attacking intent and bad defense. However, the Dutch manager, age 67, was optimistic that these problems would be dealt before the club begins its season against Leicester City.

A fine player during his football career, Advocaat has managed a host of clubs and countries in his managerial career which includes PSV, AZ Alkmaar, Rangers, Zenith St. Petersborg, Belgium, Netherlands and Serbia. With lots of experience in his bags, he is sure to add some new players to his side. The club has brought in the likes of Younes Kaboul, Jermain Lens, Matthews and Coates with acclaimed youngster Wickham likely to join the club. Jermain Lens, the big money signing from Dynamo Kiev, recently took to Instagram to post a photo of his training session and is set to light up the Premier League this season with his blistering pace. Sunderland fans were glad with the signing, with tweets and analysis all over Twitter. Lens himself had tweeted about his move on the social networking site.

Following the termination of manager Gus Poyet's contract, Advocaat took over Sunderland in the month of March last season. His first match was a 1-0 loss to West Ham United four days later but then secured a win in the derby against Newcastle. In an intense relegation battle, his team survived on the second last week of the campaigh, after securing a 0–0 draw against Arsenal. Advocaat was seen crying at the end of the game, having just barely avoiding the drop zone.
