Estelle Balet has passed away in a snowboarding accident

“Pretty awesome to get to snowboard with this view. Can't wait for more filming next week !” Swiss snowboarder Estella Balet has just captioned it on her Instagram picture two days ago.

 

Switzerland is in the grief of sudden demise of the 21-year-old athlete. Swiss snowboarding champion died in an avalanche while filming a movie “Exploring the Known” above the village of Orsieres in the Swiss Alps near Switzerland’s southern border with France and Italy. While a chunk of snow broke away, it swept her down a narrow, sloppy rock and she was killed.

Though she was reported of wearing rescue beacon, helmet, and an airbag avalanche took her life. According to police other snowboarder was not injured. A police investigation has been started to detect the actual reason behind the accident.

Regardless of the arrival of emergency rescue team after the accident, Balet died at the scene.

Police stated-

"Despite immediate efforts to revive her, she died at the scene,"

Balet has just won the Freeride World Tour. Freeride community is in deep misery after losing a young champion, Balet.

"The Freeride community has experienced a tremendous loss today as we learned that one of the most hopeful young talents and current snowboard World Champion, Estelle Balet, has tragically passed away in an avalanche. The mortal avalanche occurred earlier this morning in the canton of Valais,"

The Freeride Tour stated this statement and even they added-

 “Estelle Balet was a naturally gifted shining star and demonstrated remarkable talent as she quickly became a household name on the Freeride World Tour, bringing home her second title of World Champion just a few weeks ago in Verbier,”

The world champion snowboarder was a champion in freeriding, a style of snowboarding that occurs on the natural landscape without any advanced courses.

 It’s an immense loss for the country to lose a young successful athlete like Ballet.
