The bout between the IBF welterweight champion, Errol Spencer Jr. and the former WBA welterweight champion, Lamont Peterson, is set to take place in the Barclays Center, New York on Jan 20, 2018. With 22 fights and an undefeated run, Errol is set to defend his IBF Welterweight title for the first time since his win back on May 27, 2017.

DiBella, an American boxing promoter and film producer quoted in the news release,

"I'm pleased to be promoting Spence vs. Peterson, one of the very best match-ups in the welterweight division and in all of the boxing."

For the upcoming title match between the two champions, Peterson had to waive his WBA welterweight champion’s trophy. It is believed that Lamont wrote a letter to the World Boxing Federation officially vacating the Regular Welterweight title as written by the WBN. A little later, the professional boxer challenged the undefeated Errol Spence for the IBF Welterweight championship.

Lamont has a total of 35 wins with 3 losses and a draw. Whereas the Texan boxer is still undefeated with 22 fights and wins for the same. On one hand, most of Spencer’s wins are via knockout. And on the other, Peterson has won more via decisions.
