Clary Fray is a fictional character and the main protagonist of the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare.
Clary Fray is the daughter of Jocelyn Fray and infamous circle leader, Valentine Morgenstern. She grew up believing that her father was named Jonathan Clark, who died before she was born. She was kept away from the Shadow World and living a mundane life with her mother and Luke Garroway, her mother’s best friend.
Clary discovers the Shadow hunters’ world when she witnesses the killing of demon in the Pandemonium nightclub. She becomes stunned to realize that she is the only person able to see the group of teenagers with supernatural powers.
When her mother is taken away by demon, Jace, a shadow hunter takes Clary to the New York Institute. She comes to know that her mother was a shadow hunter and has been kidnapped by her mother’s ex-husband, Valentine. When she confronts Valentine, she finds that he is her biological father with whom her mother got married. She also find out later on that Jace Wayland, with whom she falls in love, is her brother.
Later, however, it is revealed that Valentine just wanted to manipulate them and Jace is not her brother. At the end of the series, it is disclosed that Sebastian Verlac is her real brother. After Clary finds about his true identity, he, along with Valentine is killed and the war is over.
Clary is described to be short with just a height over five feet, with curly red hair and green eyes. She is known to be very stubborn but a loving person. She really cares for Simon, her only real friend, Luke, her mother’s best friend and her mother. She has been described with quotes as ‘delicate’ throughout the series by Jace.
After meeting Jace, she is instantly smitten by his charm. They have complicated relationship and both lie to themselves about how they feel for one another. Moreover, she is made to believe that she is his sister. Clary tries to ignore her feelings for Jace while Jace tries his best to be with Clary despite their family bond. Eventually, they discover that they are not related and start dating.
Clary Fray has been portrayed by British-American actress, Lily Collins in the movie adaptation of the book The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and by Kat Mcnamara in the Freeform series, Shadowhunters.
Not only in movie but also in real life, Clary Fray (Collins) has been dating Jace Wayland, portrayed by the actor Jamie Campbell Bower. She is in relationship with her longtime boyfriend since 2012.
Collins is well known for her roles in the movies as Stuck in Love, The English Teacher and Love, Rosie. She has also appeared in TV show The Last Tycoon.
