Bianca Lawson to star in OWN's 'Queen Sugar.'

Bianca Lawson, of fame Pretty Little Liars, is all set to star in yet another drama series Queen Sugar.

In the series, Lawson will be seen as Darla, the ex-girlfriend of Ralph Angel, played by Kofi Siriboe, and mother of their son, 6-year-old Blue, who she has been prevented from seeing as she battles drug addiction.

The series “Queen Sugar” is based on Natalie Baszile’s book of the same name.

It depicts the lives and loves of the estranged Bordelon siblings in St. Josephine, Louisiana: Charley, the savvy wife, and manager of an NBA star; NOVA, a worldwide journalist and activist; and Ralph Angel, a formerly incarcerated young father in search of redemption. After a family tragedy, the Bordelons must navigate the triumphs and struggles of their complicated lives in order to run an ailing sugarcane farm in the Deep South. The series TV adaptation was created by Ava DuVernay. The executive producers of the show are Oprah Winfrey, Ava DuVernay, and Melissa Carter.

Prior to being a part of Queen Sugar, Lawson had been famous for her roles in many TV series. She played Maya St. Germain, who is Emily, played by Shay Mitchell’s first girlfriend, in ABC’s hit series Pretty Little Liars. She starred in The Secret Life of the American teenager as Shawna. She played a witch, Emily Bennett in The Vampire Diaries. She currently stars in Rogue as Talia.

Besides Bianca Lawson, the series will star Greg Vaughan, of fame Days of Our Lives, as Calvin, a cop and longtime lover of Nova, the lead character who shares a deep connection with her despite being married. Henry G. Sanders, of fame Selma, plays Prosper Denton, a farmer and old friend of Ernest . Rutina Wesley will be playing the lead role of Nova Bordelon. The series is set to air on the Oprah Winfrey Network and begins production this month in Louisiana and Los Angeles.
