Here are easy steps on Installing a Backup Sump Pump and save your basement from Flooding:
- First Unplug, disconnect and remove the old sump pump from the sump pit.
- Then Apply Teflon tape to the threads on a check valve. After that, tighten the valve onto the side of a new 110-volt sump pump.
- Wrap the Teflon tape around the battery-powered pump threads, then tighten the battery-powered pump onto the check valve so the water won,t leak. Now, set both pumps into the sump pit.
- Cut 1½-inch-diameter PVC pipe to length to form discharge pipe.Then stick with Glue together PVC pipe and fittings and connect to existing discharge pipe with stainless steel hose clamps and rubber connector.
- install the deep-cycle 12-volt marine battery into the protective plastic box so the water cannot touch it and set onto a nearby shelf of the basement.
- Then connect the low-voltage cable between the battery and backup pump.
- Plug into a 110-volt electrical outlet the battery charger and the power cord for the 110-volt primary sump pump.
- Then Test the operation of the primary pump by reaching your hand into the sump pit and lifting the flow valve until the pump starts. Then check the battery-powered backup pump whether it's working or not.
