After The Da Vinci Code, Tautou made a decision to walk away from Hollywood. She said that it didn’t suit her and “wasn’t the way I want to live my life.”

Audrey considers France as her base and plans to focus her career in her native land rather than in the United States. She told Stevie Wong of The Straits Times:

I am, at the end of the day, a French actress. I am not saying I will never shoot an English-language movie again, but my home, my community; my career is rooted in France. I would never move to Los Angeles.”

The 39-year-old actress had once described her attitude as being a surfer turning their back on the biggest waves.

"I understand that nobody understands me, but I can't be someone I'm not."

Chinese Puzzle star admitted that she doesn’t have Hollywood fantasies and doesn’t get many offers from America.

Tautou had first appeared on big screens starring as a young beautician who falls in love with a much older pilot in the gentle comedy Venus Beauty in 1999. She even received a Cesar award for her first ever performance, much to her surprise.

"I was so certain I could not be chosen that I thought they had dialed a wrong number," Audrey said.

Later she was cast as the lead character in the 2001 movie Amelie, which brought her critical acclaim as well as international recognition.

In an interview with Telegraph, Tautou revealed that she doesn’t seek fame and spotlight, but a simple life like everybody.

“What was very oppressive to me was that suddenly I became an attraction, you know. And for me, I am not somebody who likes to have all the spotlight. I love being an actress, but I really don’t have that interest. So it was something that was really weird, because I like to live like everybody. I like to take the subway, and suddenly I couldn’t do those little, simple things, you know?”

Audrey has since then starred in a number of movies, including Dirty Pretty Things, The Da Vinci Code, Priceless, A Very Long Engagement, Coco Before Chanel, Beautiful Lies, and Chinese Puzzle.
