At least 12 dead and several injured in the large building fire in Bronx Apartment Building

In a four-alarm fire in Bronx building, New York City, twelve people died. The deadliest fire took away life of one-year-old infant child. Mayor state that "This is the worst fire tragedy we have seen in this city in at least a quarter-century,"

Mayor Bill de Blasio said. "Based on the information we have now, this will rank as one of the worst losses of life in a fire in a quarter century."  

12 Died and Several Injured in Bronx Building Fire

The disaster fire incident took at 2363 Prospect Ave., at East 185th Street, west of Bronx Park and the Bronx Zoo. The fire started from the first floor of a five stored building, has 25 apartments. The Fire Department of the New York City was informed at 6:51 pm and took action at 6:57 pm.

Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro told that the age of death victims rolled in between 1 to 50. 12 people lost their lives, and 12 others were rescued. Several people are still in the danger zone. All the victims were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital and NYC Health Hospital for immediate treatment.

Almost 170 firefighters put their lives at risk against extreme cold and responded to the scene. The Office of Emergency Management Commissioner, Joe Esposito, request Crotona International Academy located nearby the scenario to open as a reception center for those displaced.

The American Red Cross Greater New York also quickly responded to the scene. Red Cross distributed blankets and clothes for the victims.

This incident reminds all the American citizen of the deadliest fire occured in the Bronx in 2007. In that scene, nine children and one adult lost their life that took place in a blaze sparked by a space heater.

In a final remark, Mayor De Blasio state, “Everyone this evening, hold your families close and keep the families here in the Bronx in your prayers.”
