The news has popped up that Arizona Governor Doug Ducey has recently vetoed a couple of bills that would have basically eased the restrictions of groundwater in Southern Arizona.

On the account of that water-management advocates has praised. The governor has been requested by the advocates to reject the legislation.

The bills which have been vetoed was projected that it would eliminate the obstacles in pumping groundwater in Cochise and Yuma counties.

In this regards, the rivals of the legislation even dreaded that it could harm the prestige of the state which has basically earned the reputation of being wise in the management of scarce water. Also, the governor agreed to this.

The governor gave the following statement at the time of announcing his intention to veto the bills

"We're not going to allow bills that get in the way of the 1980 Groundwater Management Act or take away from the work that the people have done before I came into office in protecting Arizona's water,"

Also, the bills were stated to be opposed by Water-law and sustainability scholars at the state's universities.

Water "certainty and sustainability" is a priority, Ducey said in a written statement.
