Al-Farouq Aminu in a live-in relationship with his girlfriend, His elder brother also a professional basketball player

AL-Farouq Aminu, the American-Nigerian professional basketball player is a descendent from the line of Nigerian Kings. His name gives the literal meaning, ‘the chief has arrived’. Well, Can be said, he is on his way to be the ‘king’ of basketball.

The 24 year old, who plays internationally with Nigeria National Basketball team was selected by the Los Angeles Clippers in 2010 NBA Draft with the 8th overall pick.

Aminu who follows Islam was born to parents Aboubakar Aminu and Anjirlic Aminu at Georgia, Atlanta has an elder brother Alade Aminu is also a professional basketball player. Alade plays for TED Ankara Kolejliler of the Turkish Basketball League. 

Having played as a valued slasher, defender and rebounder, he is a true player in court but in real life he likes to keep his love life, low profile.  Reportedly, has a live-in girlfriend, who he has been dating for quite some time now.

Farouq, when was in his high school, was arrested on felony charges of aggravated and misdemeanor criminal trespass when he and 2 of his teammates drove and shot a woman in the stomach with a BB gun, out the window of a truck.

In the year 2012, Aminu got himself into quite a turmoil when he disowned Nigeria. When confronted by TMZ,  about his nationality, he completely denied the fact that he was Nigerian and said that he had never to that day, stepped foot on Nigerian land. He said, ‘I’m originally from Atlanta, Georgia but my dad is Nigerian.’ His father being Nigerian, Al-Farouq states that he has a right to represent Nigeria due to dual citizenship.

The NBA player owns an eyewear collection of his own; Rouq collection. He collaborated with Geek eyewear for this collection of his. The glasses are his signature style, which make him stand out. The 6 feet 9 inches tall Aminu has an active profile on Twitter. He has posted over 6678 tweets till date with total 73.2k followers

According to Yahoo Sports, Al-Farouq agreed on a four-year, $30 million contract with the Portland Trail Blazers, on the 1st of July this year. About the deal, NBA Insider for Yahoo Sports online and Fox Sports 1 tweeted, ‘Free agent Aminu Al-Farouq has agreed to a four year, $30 million deal with Portland, league source tells Yahoo Sports.’ Even Al-Farouq, age 24, recently posted about his trip to Portland he tweeted:

‘Headed to Portland with my guy Neil Olshey, who believed in me since day one. Much love’

‘Rip city here I come’

In a total of 74 games, he averaged 5.6 points and 6.4 rebounds for Dallas Mavericks in the last season. Los Angeles Clippers made Aminu their 8th overall pick of the 2010 NBA draft. Blazer’s present GM Neil Olshey was the general manager for LA clippers when he was picked for the LA Clippers. Al-Farouq also played three seasons with New Orleans. However, he cannot be officially signed by the Trail Blazers until the 9th of July this year; the date when the NBA’s free-market moratorium ends.
