Actor Alan Tudyk raises $3m for his new tv show

The short-lived Cult hit Firefly has been off air for 12 years now. But fans are still waiting for the official confirmation of the show’s revival. Well, then there’s some good news for the fans of the sci-fi tv series.

Before you get all excited… No, Firefly isn’t coming back but the show’s stars Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion are. That’s right, the actors recently raised over $3 million dollars through crowdfunding for a web series, ConMan. In a hilarious clip, Tudyk and Fillion pitched the show to the public. The video went to garner a lot of attention all over the internet. It got Firefly Fans talking about it on social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram and helped the campaign raise a million dollars just under 24 hours.

The video starts with Tudyk introducing himself and Fillion and talking about Firefly and their experiences at fan conventions. “I did not know what to expect, I actually thought the fans might be a little weird”, says Tudyk.  “What I found was it the fans were the best part about the convention and every convention that I’ve been to since.” Fillion and Tudyk then talk about the “real weirdos” which they say were themselves, the convention promoter, the photographer and the “insecurity guard.”

When Fillion asks Tudyk why he wants to pitch the show to the public and not to a network, Tudyk says that he has “trust issues.” Reffering to the untimely cancellation of Firefly. The entire video is very funny and very Meta with Tudyk’s Firefly character Wash’s quote “leaf in the wind” and a lot of other references to Firefly.

The video also features other Firefly stars like Sean Maher and a shirtless Gina Torress along with other big names of the sci-fi world like James Gunn, Seth Green, Felicia Day and Amy Acker, who will all be starring in Con Man.

The web series is slated to release this summer. It will chronicle the life of a washed up actor and his struggles as he tries to build a life after his TV show is cancelled.

The show is loosely based on Tudyk’s own life. But while Tudyk has managed to stay relevant in the entertainment industry with his roles as Gerhardt, A German gay drug addict in 28 days, Tucker in Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, a recently divorced Dentist Noah Werner and his guest roles in various other TV shows, the lead of Con Man is struggling with fame.

Tudyk will be playing Wray Nerely, the star of a short lived show Spectrum, which is a nod to Firefly. And Fillion will be playing Jack Moore, a successful actor and a friend of Wray, who also starred in Spectrum. Maher is said to be playing a fictionalized version of himself. While, Amy Acker will be playing a former star of Spectrum and Wray’s Love interest in the show.

There’s a lot in the love department for Tudyk's onscreen character Nerely but Tudyk doesn’t seem to have any luck. Tudyk previously has said that as a kid he wanted to be a hotel manager and get married. He said he “wanted to have a wife and children.” But there is not much about his dating life aroundand we haven’t seen any signs of a girlfriend. So is Tudyk up for grabs? We’ll just have to wait and watch.
