'The Muppets' to premiere on ABC this fall, 'Relationship' of Miss Piggy and Kermit to be explored

ABC is coming back this fall with an array of new shows, among which The Muppets is one.  The network announced fall dates for its new shows, including Wicked City, Dr. Ken and Quantico. Quantico is set to star Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra. Some fan favorites returning this fall include Shonda Rhimes’ How to Get Away with Murder and Dancing with the Stars. The Muppets will premiere on September 22, 2015 and air every Tuesday.

This new installment on The Muppets franchise is co-created by Bill Prady and Bob Kushell.  Prady is renowned for his work on various sitcoms like Gilmore Girls and Dharma and Greg. But he is perhaps most known as being the co-creator of the cult favorite, The Big Bang Theory. Kushell is known for his work on The Simpsons, American Dad and Malcolm in The Middle.  Kushel is said to be the showrunner as Prady will also be working The Big Bang Theory, which finished its 8th season this summer.

The Muppets will focus on the person lives of Fozzie Bear, Kermit the frog, Miss Piggy, Gonzo and other Muppets as they continue to work on ABC. It will be a mockumentary style show much like The Office and Modern Family.

The series is said to focus on the relationship between Miss Piggy and Kermit the frog. Kermit, who has been an internet phenomenon with associated memes floating around the internet, married Miss Piggy in a ceremony last year. It is not yet confirmed whether or not this will be addressed in the show. So, are we going to see a little Miss Piggy or a little Kermit running around soon? We’ll just have to wait and watch.

The current voice actors for the show are expected to reprise their respective roles. Dave Goelz is expected to voice Gonzo, Steve Whitmire is expected to voice Kermit and Eric Jacobson is expected to voice Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear. There will be a few more additional characters in the show.

The Muppets franchise, which was first created by Jim Henson (who was also the voice actor for Kermit) has managed to attract a huge fan following in the past six decades. It has become a go-to Halloween costume. Muppet merchandise is quite popular amongst kids. Muppet bags, Muppet books, Muppet clothing (and even Muppet masks) can be found on the internet.

Everyone has an immense love for Henson’s Muppets. Even after Henson’s passing in 1990, the franchise has managed to stay relavant and is still well loved. There have been many movies, TV shows and other appearances. Fans really are hoping that the originality of Henson’s work remains, with signature Muppet dialogues and quotes, and that the new show is a success.
