'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,' strar 'Ruth Negga supports interracial marriage and gay rights

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D star Ruth Negga talks about interracial marriage and gay rights. Ruth appeared with her Loving (2016) co-star Joel Edgerton to shed light on this burning issue. They were also joined by the director Jeff Nicholas.

The movie Loving is a biopic of Richard and Mildred Loving, a white man and a black woman who were arrested in Virginia in 1958 for marrying.

According to the actress Ruth, “it’s not the particular incident but year after year of fighting and oppression that can grind a person down. It’s about fighting for something that should just be your right.”

Joel, Ruth, and Jeff Nicholas talked about some of the major aspects that have been holding our society from developing any further, binding them to the chain of discrimination and oppression.

According to Jeff, the biggest moment in the movie was the victory of the court case. The Loving weren’t even involved. They had fallen in love and got married, they had nothing to do with the case. The movie not only spreads awareness but also depicts the victory over societal prejudice.

The movie premiered at Cannes on May 16, and will be released worldwide this November.
