Oscar winning director Kathryn Bigelow, aged 64, seems to be still single since her break up with boyfriend Mark Boal 3 years ago. And it seems that despite moving on with their own lives after their split in 2012, the couple are still in touch as a good friends and profession peers as well. And this might be the reason why this former love flames are all set to work together in a movie, three years after their break up.
The American director, producer and writer and the first woman to win the Academy Award for Best Director for her multiple award winning film “The Hurt Locker”, has once again teamed up with her former boyfriend Boal for yet another great project.
Boal, an American journalist, screenwriter and film producer has previously worked with Bigelow in critically and commercially successful movies like “The Hurt Locker” and “Zero Dark Thirty”, which has won two Oscars and four nominations. And now, Bigelow has teamed up with her talented ex-lover and is all set to direct Boal’s script.
According to Deadline, it is an untitled crime story that takes place in Detroit in 1967. The movie would be totally based on riots in Detroit that happened for five summer days in the year. The film will deal with the systematic racism that the black community faced in urban Detroit. As per the online magazine, the former lover of the award winning director has been doing a lot of research on the project. This untitled movie is set to be released in 2017 during the 50th anniversary of the riots. But, the date is yet to be confirmed officially.
Bigelow will be producing as well as directing the untitled movie along with Boal and Annapurna Pictures, Megan Ellison and Matthew Budman. This would be Bigelow’s tenth directorial venture and this would be the first movie of her which would not be based on war, but rather on domestic conflicts.
We are extremely glad that despite all the differences between them, the couple has come together without holding grudge. They had, have and will be working together in coming years as well to bring out a number of extraordinary movies for movie lovers and their fans.
Though Bigelow and Boal officially broke up in 2012, the couple never announced their relationship. They never openly talked about their romantic affair and nor did they speak when the news of their break up surfaced. But Bigelow and Boal always seemed happy with each other whenever they walked the red carpet at any award show or went on a promotion of their previous collaboration.
But no matter what, we are more than happy to learn that these two former love birds will be working together once again. We would like to give our best wishes to the director and the screen writer for the success of the movie.
Bigelow was formerly married to husband, director James Cameron. They tied the knot in 1989 and divorced in 1991. The couple does not have children. She has an estimated net worth of $20 million dollars.
