Novelist John Irving, age, 73, talks about the movie adaptations of his books

We all know John Irving. Don’t we? He is an American novelist and Academy award winning screenwriter. And now, he has opened us about how he feels about the movie adaptations of his books.

Well, the novelist Irving reportedly felt very accomplished at first, when his novels were adapted into the movies.

Our reporters were able to have some small talk with him and in that short interaction they were able to find out that he actually likes to see his novels, the series of events he has crafted, the character he has created being portrayed by real people and the story taking a human form.

He often likes to go to the set of the film, in which his novel has been adapted. He thinks the satisfaction level depends upon the direction of the movie and how the actors act and portrays his characters. In a sense, he is like a crucial part of the movie making crew.

The way he gets involved on the set of filmmaking in which his novels are adapted, it is clear that he wants to make sure the character he has built up in a novel are taken the right way. He is kind of a perfectionist. This must be the very reason why the movie adaptations of his novels are often a hit collaboration.

John Irving is popular for the international success of novel ‘The World According to Garp’ (1978). The Cider House Rules (1985), A Prayer for Owen Meany (1989), A Widow of One Year (1998) are some of his bestseller books. In an interview, he said that his new novel ‘Avenue of Mysteries’ is going to be the height of his creativity.

Five of his novels have already been adapted into movies and he has won the Academy Award for best adapted screenplay for his marvelous script of ‘The Cider House Rules’ in 1999.

His novel ‘A Prayer for Owen Meany’ was adapted into the movie Simon Birch. For this, Irving was required to change the names, some quotes and titles of the characters. Next, his novel ‘A Widow of One Year’ was partially adapted into the movie ‘The Door in the Floor’. According to Irving, both were nice movies and he enjoyed them a lot.

John Irving is 73 years of age now and has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Our sources reveal that his ups and downs in personal life is the foremost inspiration for his writing.

He has altogether three children from two wives. He married his first wife Shyla Leary in 1964 and now he is currently happily married with Janet Turnbull.
