Morley Safer and his wife, Jane still in love with each other, even after 48 years of married life.

The 84 year old star Canadian American reporter, Morley Safer is not only known for his terrific work in media and journalism but also for his ever-lasting marriage with anthropologist Jane Fearer. 49 years of married bliss, that restores my faith in love. Jane Fearer, an anthropologist and author, is a scientific consultant with the American Museum of Natural History.

Safer first met wife Jane Fearer back in 1968 when they were set up on a blind date by common friend Av Westin, now executive producer of ABC's World News Tonight. After three and a half months of dating, Morley proposed to Jane via phone while covering the civil war in Nigeria.

Toronto born Morley started his journalism career as a reporter for various newspapers in Canada and England. He landed his first newspaper job in 1951 on the Woodstock, Ont. Sentinel-Review at a salary pay of $28 a week. He later joined CBS as a London based correspondent in 1964. In 1965, he opened the CBS News Bureau in Saigon. Later that year, he followed American Marine troops to the village Cam Ne on a mission cited as “search and destroy” mission. The accounts of actual events covered by Morley was telecast on CBS painting some of the first bleak pictures of the Vietnam War which garnered some unsuccessful opposition and pressure from President Lyndon Johnson.

Safer has covered nine wars as a foreign correspondent including the Vietnam & Nigeria war which has earned him many prestigious awards;  George Foster Peabody Award, Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award, Paul White Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association and  Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government in 1995.

Talking about Jane and Morley’s first date in 1968, Safer had packed Westin, Jane and Walter Cronkite into his 1949 Bentley convertible and took them to a disco. "That was a hilarious night," recalls Safer in a 1979 interview with People magazine, "with Cronkite standing up in the rumble seat doing a kind of Her Royal Highness impression." Jane, the daughter of a Hartford aeronautical engineer, was impressed by America's elite electronic press corps. "I think she was quite taken with a side of life she'd never known,"Morley recalls his young days. Morley, who "by instinct" is often suspicious of human motives, says he. He also says he found Jane "both curious and marvelously naive at the same time. She is utterly open to people and has the most ardent thirst to know of anyone."

With their glorious London days behind them, he and Jane now live in Manhattan. In the name of children, they have a daughter Sarah Alice Anne Safer, 46 who is a freelance journalist. Rumors of Safer's death had been around the news in recent time due to his status quo as an elderly individual, when in real life, he has still not retired from journalism.

Morley Safer has an estimate net worth of a whopping $10 million.
