Arthur is now taking the place of Waqar Younis, who resigned in April, following an early exit from World T20. Following Waqar's resignation, the PCB appointed a panel comprising Wasim Akram, Ramiz Raja, and Faisal Mirza to help them in their search for a new head coach.

Their first choice, former England head coach Peter Moores revealed he had turned down an approach from the Pakistan Cricket Board to take charge of the national team.

Arthur’s appointment was announced less than a week later and he is all set to take over as head coach of Pakistan by the end of May.

A Pakistan Cricket Board statement read: "It is expected that Mickey Arthur will be able to join the PCB toward the end of this month. He has confirmed his acceptance of the post of head coach of the Pakistan national cricket team."
