“My relationship with the harp is similar to an artificial limb or a wheelchair. It's almost part of me, but more to the point, it serves a purpose, and if it wasn't there I would wonder what was supposed to fit in its place,” this is how Harpist-songwriter Joanna Newsom once described her relationship with her favorite musical instrument, harp. And, also this reflects her love and passion for music. Now, there is big news for all Joanna fans out there.
The Indie music darling Newsom is all set to come up new album. It's been almost five years since the gorgeous and talented Joanna released her acclaimed triple-album Have One On Me.
The news about her new material surfaced last year when she gave an interview to Dazed Digital. In her interview, she had revealed that she's been recording the follow up to 2010's Have One on Me. "I’m working on something new – I should hopefully have a little more news soon," she said. "I’ve been working hard for a lot of those five years on a new idea." It is hinted that she is bringing the new work this year.
Well, must say the new music from this American alternative folk goddess would be a great treat for her fans.
Joanna also a keyboardist and vocalist made her big-screen debut through Paul Thomas Anderson’s adaptation of the Thomas Pynchon novel, Inherent Vice. The movie was released last December and she starred and also lent her voice as the film’s narrator. Her performance garnered appreciation from fans and critics alike.
Sharing her experience about the movie she said, “This movie was so incredibly rewarding and fun for me, and it did maybe defer some of my music work for a while, but it was totally worth it.
Mentioning that she would love to score for a film, she said “I think I would do a film soundtrack if I was very inspired by the idea and the collaboration, knowing that it would maybe take away a little bit of my time spent on other music, touring and so forth. But I would really love to someday.”
The 33 year old multi-talented musician had released her debut album 'The Milk-Eyed Mender' in 2004 followed by 'Ys' in 2006. In 2012, Newsom released her two new songs during live performances, “The Diver’s Wife” and “Look And Despair”.
On the personal front, she is enjoying her marital life together with her actor-comedian husband Andy Samberg. Joanna and Samberg exchanged the vows in 2013 after dating him for six years. The sweet couple own the estate Moorcrest in Beachwood Canyon, Los Angeles which they bought last year.
