Charley pride is an American country music singer, musician/ guitarist, recording artist, performer and business owner. His greatest musical success came in the early- to mid-1970s when he became the best-selling performer for RCA Records since Elvis Presley. In total, he has garnered 39 No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts.

Pride is one of the few African-Americans to have had considerable success in the country music industry and one of only three African-Americans to have been inducted as a member of the Grand Oie Opry. His musical journey is one of the most extraordinary journeys of all time with a long list of awards, honors, hit songs and albums. You can watch them on youtube.

Pride has an established name in music industry. 14-year-old pride purchased his first guitar from a Sears Roebuck catalog and taught himself to play listening to songs that played on the radio.

At 16 years of age, he started to dream of being the greatest professional baseball player of all American League and a pitcher and outfielder for the Memphis Red Sox. In 1953, he signed a contract with the Boise Yankees, the class C farm team of the New York Yankees. But during that season, an injury hampered his pitching. He got back in later and had quite a journey in baseball. He bid baseball farewell and joined the show business, full time.

In an interview with Country Stars Central, he was asked “what prompted the switch from baseball to show business?” he answered, “Well back then if you weren’t in the majors by the time you were 25, you were scratched off the list. I had few injuries but I made it to the Angels in 1961, I just didn’t stay with them. There were only 16 clubs when I was coming along, and mow there were twenty-six, there are some good ball players on each club, but its gonna be a little deluded nowadays.” In 2010, Pride became a special investor and minority owner of the Texas Rangers Major League Baseball club.

There is a very famous line that says behind every man’s success is his wife’s hand. Charlie pride who has been married to his wife since 1956 also shares the same story. He met his wife Rozene while he was playing baseball in southern states. They got married in 1956 and have two sons, Kraig and Dion and a daughter, Angela. They are married for almost 60 years now.

When asked, “What is your secret to a successful marriage?” he replied, “I love her and I guess it’s both ways, we’ve put up with each other. Independence has balanced our relation, and we never argued which is the cause of many divorce.” She has been his support system and inspiration as well. He has not officially provided any information regarding his net worth.
