Aunjanue Ellis says she will not film any movies or TV shows at Mississippi.

American actress and native Mississippian Aunjanue Ellis has stated that she won’t make any movies or TV shows in Mississippi until the flag is taken down.

Quantico actress Ellis has pulled her film fraternity out of Mississippi and has formed a coalition to take film projects out of the state. She has announced that she won’t be taking up any movies or shows until the state flag is changed to remove the Confederate emblem.

Until that conversation resolves into a flag that represents all of its citizens, I will never act in another movie shot in this state until that flag comes down.”

The acclaimed actress declared her intentions to move her company, Miss Myrtis Films to Louisiana until the flag is changed. She had planned to shoot for a movie in Mississippi but now, she will film in Louisiana instead.

Actress Ellis even made a statement about Mississippi’s flag’s confederate emblem on the red carpet of 47th NAACP Image Awards in Pasadena, California.

The Help actress was seen proudly holding her dress up so that the message covering the front of her dress could be visible clearly by the photographers. She had worn a white dress with the words ‘Take it down Mississippi’ displayed on the front. Along with that, the dress was also featured with red hand prints on the front and on right shoulder blade.

Through her dress, she wanted to spread a message which referenced her desire to see the Confederate emblem taken off the flag of Mississippi.

According to the WDAM reports, Ellis had also written a letter to the state for removal of the confederate emblem.

In her letter to the state, Ellis wrote Mississippi using the Confederate symbol in its state flag is “about a state in the United States of America sharing iconography with a terrorist organization”, clearly a reference to the Ku Klux Klan.

Mississippi’s is the only state flag that comprises the Confederate battle flag emblem.

“Mississippi is my home. Everything I love the most in this world was born here or I discovered here. My extraordinary family, the blues and gospel guitar played like no other place on this earth, gumbo better than anything cooked in any Louisiana kitchen….The sum total of this state is not that flag,” Ellis wrote.

She concluded her letter with her hope for new Mississippi.

“No more being at the bottom of every list of growth and at the top of every list of destruction. I can see it. Anew flag. A new Mississippi. We are not a flag. We are people, a glorious people

Ellis also encouraged fellow Mississippians Tate Taylor, John Grisham, Morgan Freeman and Oprah Winfrey to attend the “Stand Up Take It Down” rally to demand the removal of the symbol form the state flag.

Regarding her personal life, she is married to her longtime boyfriend after dating over a decade. Though there were rumors of her being lesbian and her affair with her co-actress, she is still with her husband and the couple is not heading toward divorce.

Ellis is regarded as one of the highest paid actresses with an estimated net worth of $245 million.
