I didn’t grow up around many black people. The sum total of what I learned about African-American culture in school was Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks and the Underground Railroad. This was more than my mom knew; she didn’t even see a black person in real life until she was 18 years old.
Haper Bazaar's the model of the year receiver had met Justin in a church followed by Justin asking her for a coffee. Then they just fell in love. But the real problem began with Ashley's family.

After Ashley brought her boyfriend to meet her grandparents, they behaved in an unusual way, quite opposite of what she had expected. She could not believe her grandmom who was always kind and sweet had another side.
They were cold and indifferent to Ervin. Moreover, when it was time for them to leave, her grandmom did not directly bid him goodbye instead said,
Tell that guy I said goodbye.
Imagine how hurtful it was to her, much less her sweet boyfriend Ervin. But to her astonishment, he told her,
Racism is never surprising but always disappointing.
Justin then explained to his sexy girlfriend as calmly way as possible. How her grandparents only saw black men involved in vulgar and criminal activities in television.
The 29-year-old Sports Illustrated model was more than happy to find an understanding boyfriend like him.
He was patient with her family and their prejudice as he was determined to get the beautiful cover star and designer for the rest of his life. So how did he plan to achieve that? We know that he succeeded.

Simply he called. Justin called her grandma to congratulate on her sixtieth wedding anniversary. Then her grandmother called Ashley's mom and said as if she was kind of surprised but happy,
You’ll never guess who called me.
