According to recent reports, Actor Jon Hamm and his partner, actress Jennifer Westfeldt have broken up after 16 years of being together. Apparently, the split was due to the two of them wanting different things in life.
According to a source for Star magazine, “Jennifer realized that she and Jon don’t want the same things. So they agreed that it was time to take a step back.”
Reports say that while Jennifer wanted a baby, Jon didn’t. Jon has said in the past that he wouldn’t “rule out” the possibility of having children. In an interview, Hamm previously said, “I don’t have a driving force to have a baby.”
“That said, I’m in a committed relationship, and if it ever came up, I’m not ruling it out.”
However, with his hit show, Mad men coming to an end and with his 30 day stay at a rehab facility, maybe this just isn’t the right time for him.
Talking about his struggle with alcoholism to TV Week earlier this year, Hamm said, “Life throws a lot at you sometimes and you have to deal with it as much as you can.”
When asked whether his portrayal of darker characters in his life as an actor fueled his alcoholism, he didn’t deny it. Hamm said, “I've said in varying ways that acting can be a difficult endeavor, certainly not as difficult as the recent example I used of being a baby heart surgeon.”
“But, it does present its own challenges and so does life.”
The actor, who plays Don Draper in the hit AMC drama, Mad Men, told Mailonline in 2012 that unlike his character, he wasn’t a heavy drinker. “I don’t drink as much as Don Draper,” Hamm said. “I would be unconscious if I did.”
But just three years later, he had to seek professional help with his alcoholism. While he was going through treatment, Westfeldt supported him wholeheartedly. After he was admitted into the facility, a representative for the Emmy nominated actor said, “With the support of his longtime partner Jennifer Westfeldt, Jon Hamm recently completed treatment for his struggle with alcohol addiction. They have asked for privacy and sensitivity going forward.”
Despite meeting at a younger age, the couple has been together for 16 years. Earlier this year, rumors sparked suggesting that Jennifer dumped him before his time at rehab, but the couple dismissed the rumors. A spokesperson for the couple said, “The only gentleman Jennifer visited regularly in Connecticut was Jon, while he was in rehab. They continue to ask for the public’s understanding and sensitivity during this challenging time.”
While Jon has made name in the entertainment industry thanks to his work in movies and TV shows like Mad Men, 30 Rock and Bridesmaids, Westfeldt is known for her indie movie, Kissing Jessica Stein. According to her IMDB bio, Jessica is also involved in theater. She received a Tony nomination for her work in Wonderful Town. Jennifer is often criticized by the public for her alleged plastic surgery.
