Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s Tituss Burgess was the top candidate for the Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Role this year. But unfortunately, it went to somebody else.
Poor Tituss, who was loved and adored by all his fans and viewers of the hit Netflix TV series, was left disappointed when his pinot noir drinking character did not get hold of the prestigious award in this year’s Emmy award held earlier this week. Tony Hale, from the HBO political comedy series Veep, took away the award and left Tituss’ fans heartbroken.
After the award ceremony, Twitter was on fire as hundreds of Tituss’ followers posted several hate tweets against Emmys. His fans were outraged and they poured their anger over the coveted TV award show via social media.
Burgess, who garnered love and respect for his role as Titus Andromedon, a flamboyantly gay, aspiring Broadway performer, saw countless fans praising him and dissing Emmys on Twitter for not making the fair decision.
One of the followers named Lauren Pokedoff wrote: “@LaurenPokedoff Me when Titus Burgess was robbed: #Emmys” with a picture of actress Amy Poehler staring at someone on stage with a venomous expression on her.
Another fan, David Oliver tweeted: “@doliver8Tony Hale wins best supporting actor for comedy. Should we play "Pinot Noir" to mourn loss for Tituss Burgess? #Emmys”, referring to the famous “Peeno Noir” song, the theme song of the hit series performed by Tituss himself.
JDegarson wrote: “@johndegarson How the hell did #tituss NOT WIN????? #Emmys2015.”
Complex Pop Culture: “@ComplexPop Robbed. #Emmys”
Riley Curry G.O.A.T: “@KidFury Titus is the real MVP.”
Britni Danielle: “@BritniDWrites TITUS BURGESS was EVERYTHING on Kimmy Schmidt. I mean...#emmys”
Sandra Mills: “@SandraMG Like seriously, y'all just wasted your chance to hear Titus Burgess belt Pinot Noir on the #Emmys. For shame.”
Delanie Frazier: “@laniefrazier If Titus Burgess didn't win, then nobody won. #Emmys”
We can say only one thing after seeing all these tweets; Tituss really deserved to be the best supporting actor. And despite losing the Emmy, he did win.
Tituss Burgess is an openly gay actor who, with his phenomenal gay character in the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, hyped the popularity of the show. His wicked song “Peeno Noir”, the dumb lyrics and Burgess’ fabulous performance made both the song and the Tina Fey created sitcom a pop culture comedy sensation of our time. It is his versatility that has added life to the popular show.
The American actor and singer has appeared in four Broadway musicals. He is quite popular for his very high tenor voice. Though he is extremely talented, the actor has not tried his hand on big-screen. But we do hope that he would soon be seen on several Hollywood movies.
Burgess, aged 36 is gay. He is currently single and isn’t dating anyone at the moment.
