Actor Jonathan Groff recently talked about being gay in Hollywood and the men who he has dated in the past as well as the popular TV series, “Looking”, where he stars in the lead role.
The Glee star, who came out of the closet in 2009, jokingly said that he had zero chance of getting a lead role in one of Nicholas Sparks’ movies after coming out as gay. But he did say that being an openly gay actor has lot of advantages in Hollywood.
"I’d rather be a working actor and not hiding anything in my personal life," Groff said, while talking to Kevin Sessums of FourTwoNine magazine. The actor, aged 30, added that he began getting more films and TV roles after opening up about his sexuality to his friends and family. He said: “The difference between being in the closet and out of the closet as a gay man is such a huge shift. I feel so connected still to that 22-year-old, but the idea that I was not open with that part of my life -- which I am now so open about -- is sort of surreal."
Groff has seen his career heightening as he came out as gay and has been quite busy with his work after the cancelation of HBO drama series ‘Looking’. The show was a hit and was about the lives of three gay friends in San Francisco. The Frozen star currently is rocking the show biz with his Broadway appearances. He recently appeared as Melchior Gabor in the Broadway rock musical ‘Spring Awakening’ and also received a Tony Award nomination at the tender age of 22.
The actor had appeared in the HBO series “Looking”. But the show, despite receiving positive reviews, got canceled after the second season. Groff still misses the show and he got sentimental while talking about it. He said that the project meant so much to him as he was in love with the show. But, he added that he was happy that HBO announced plans for a two-hour “special” conclusion for Looking. "For me, the sadness was more based on our having found our stride in the second season and expanded our world. ...I am grateful that we at least get to come back and put a little closure on the experience. Because I didn’t get to say goodbye to the experience when I heard the news."
Interestingly, he also openly talked about his past relationships with his ex-boyfriends. He previously dated actor Zachary Quinto and actor/singer Gavin Creel. He stated that dating his fellow actors was less challenging for him as he considered them as persons rather than actors.
"When I was dating Gavin and dating Zach, it was more about the people they were instead of the actors they were, which is the same about the people who aren’t actors that I’ve dated," he said.
The actor is currently single and hasn’t been seeing anyone and he has no plans of getting married to anyone right now. He has a net worth of around $3 million. If you are interested getting to know more about the actor, then sorry guys!! He is not active on Twitter.
