Actor Graham Philips, aged 22 has defended his former flame, singer and actress Ariana Grande, after the songstress’ leaked video of her licking donuts and stating “I hate America” went viral. And now, it seems like the diva has “one less! one less!! problem”, now that her ex-boyfriend has openly supported her for her senseless action.
The Good Wife star voiced his defense for his former girlfriend Grande as footage of her licking donuts from an uncovered tray and later spitting in it hit the internet. The Way singer was then later heard saying “I Hate America. I Hate Americans.” While everybody around the country is calling her insensitive, why is Philips defending her? After the scandal, the singing sensation was dubbed one of the most hated celebrities. But what is it to him? Is he still in love with her? Now that Grande has broken up with her beau, Big Sean, is he trying to win her heart again?
Commenting on the pop singer’s antics to PEOPLE, he said: "I think the whole thing is hilarious." The actor spoke briefly to PEOPLE during the premiere of Staten Island Summer, his latest Netflix comedy series. He further added: "I feel like it's been so blown out of proportion. I guess that's just the nature of the business."
The actor started dating Grande back in 2008 after they met in the Broadway musical 13. Though the couple broke up in December 2011, it seems Philips still has feelings for her as he kept showering the Break-Free hit maker with more praise: "She's such a sweet girl." He added: "It's tough. We all say things that we regret. I don't think it speaks to her character at all."
While several celebrities and fans of Grande were outraged by her inconsiderate behavior, Philips seemed more and more inclined towards her. He believed that people tend to make mistakes sometimes but that did not mean one should be condemned. He thinks we should give that person a chance to improve him/herself.
But not everyone seems to approve her act. Several celebs like Susan Sarandon tweeted rather sarcastically about Philips’ then lover. The Academy Award winning actress wrote on her Twitter handle: "Today, lick a doughnut in solidarity with [Ariana Grande]. A sweet, talented, true American." Actor Rob Lowe posted harshly that Grande, seemed "#lame."
While Grande is trying her best to win back her grace and respect by apologizing online and onstage to her fans and the Americans by calling USA "the greatest country in the world", she has now got some support from her long lost love.
Philips and Grande were much in love while they were a couple. They dated for 3 years, but broke up mutually. Philips is currently single and so is Grande. He has not dated anyone after his spilt with Grande and it seems like the former lovers have another chance of hooking up again.
