It’s not often real life couples play in the same movie, and not often that the real life couple play ‘reel’ life couple. However, Actor Bobby Cannavale and his girlfriend Rose Bryne have done just that. They starred together in the 2014 release, Adult Beginners, though the movie did not quite hit the box office good, it did add a spin to the couple’s real life.
Cannavale, 45, when interviewed prior to the film’s release, was talking about how the problem the two face in the movie made their relationship stronger. The movie follows a couple and their young child, whose family is disturbed when the wife (Bryne’s) brother moves in with the family. A fun-filled movie, it also stars Community star Joel Mchale. The couple has were previously seen together in the movie Annie.
Known mostly for his leading role as Bobby Caffey in the television series Third Watch, the American actor is widely known for his unconventional ways of doing things. Standing at a height of 6’2”, the tall hunk Cannavale has been questioned for his stupid choices at the beginning of his career. Nonetheless, his hard working ethics has made him into a successful actor and he continues to star in top blockbusters. He portrayed Gyp Rosetti during the third season of the HBO drama Boardwalk Empire, for which he won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2013. He also has some credits for his other recurring roles on TV shows such as NBC’s comedy series Will & Grace. He also starred in Blue Jasmine and Chef.
Born and raised in Union City, New Jersey, his mother is Cuban while his father is of Italian descent. When he was around eight years of age, Cannavale secured the plum role of the lisping boy, Winthrop, in his school's production of The Music Man, and later played a gangster in Guys and Dolls, which cemented his love for performing. Cannavale's parents divorced when he was 13 and his mother moved the family to Puerto Rico. After two years in the American territory, they settled in Margate, Florida. Cannavale returned to New Jersey after barely eking out a high school diploma in the late 1980s from Coconut Creek High School to launch his acting career.
The actor was married to actress/screenwriter Jenny Lumet however their relationship ended in divorce in 2003 after being together for about nine years. Together, the couple has one son, actor Jake Cannavale. Guess acting runs in the family! Bobby and Jake were cast as father and son in season four of Nurse Jackie. Although divorced, he remains good friends with his ex-wife.
Currently, the actor is dating Australian actress and his ‘Adult Beginners’ costar Rose Byrne since fall 2012. Cannavale confirmed their relationship at the 2013 Emmy Awards ceremony during his acceptance speech for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series award, saying "And I want to thank the love of my life, Rose [Byrne].
Well, about co-starring in the movie Adult Beginners, Bryne said it was fun filming the movie with her man. The duo have starred together in commercially-successful film 'Annie' as well.
