Top 10 Interesting or Amazing Technological and Scientific Discoveries in 2016-17

2016 was a brilliant year for scientific inventions and new technological achievements and it is expected to go even better in 2017. Taking eyes in recent past discoveries we can imagine how wonderful our world going to be in coming days with more new research and advancement.

Scientists and technological researchers are giving their full effort to find us something new, smart and interesting. I personally feel that our universe is full of mystery which will continue to amaze us by its unbelievable discoveries either in science or technology.

Technological and Scientific discoveries of 2016-17

Last year was an enormous year for science and technology where we found numbers of mind-blowing discoveries and there is still to come to a lot of breath-taking findings.

In 2016-17 researches have given us so many amazing findings related to various fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, space, automation, automobiles, online system, medical, mobile or computing technologies and much more.

Although we have thousands of latest discoveries, we have mentioned some of the most interesting among them.

One of the biggest scientific discoveries of 2016 was finding the existence of gravitational waves in the fabric of space- time from the part of colliding black holes. Which was first suggested by Mr. Albert Einstein long ago through the theory of relativity.

The possibility of the presence of the waves was one of the mysteries of physics since the past century that was predicted by Albert Einstein in 1916. The detection of gravitational wave first announced in February 2016.

3D visualization and augmented reality on surgery

Source: medicalexpo

Doctors rely on some camera system and microscope oculars to operate. Which typically depend on their own eyes and clarification to process the most precise tasks.

Last year medical science started experimenting with technology for the two broad fields, retinal microsurgery and neurosurgery, which allow surgeons to heads up during immersing them in a very high-resolution 3D visual representation on their subject.

This system also uses information to create visual templates for surgeons to perform specific tasks.

The inventors of this system say this technology provides comfort and visual information, also permit surgeons to operate in an efficient manner with effective result. Some hospitals are saying to adopt these virtual reality tools from 2017.

Our solar system might have 9th planet

It’s an interesting thing to know that our solar system has one more planet, however, it is not confirmed yet although, the astronomers from the California Institute of Technology reported some proof which suggests that a large planet, almost the 10 times the size of our earth to be found beyond the Pluto’s orbit.

This evidence comes from the amazing orbital structures of close to the objects in the Kuiper Belt. Some astronomers convinced on the existence of the ninth planet, billions of kilometers away from home.

Human Carrying drones

The Chinese drone developer Ehang developed the 184, a prototype of the very first automatic drone while will carry humans. The 184 can include a single person during fly. According to the Associated Press from Dubai,

The chief transportation agency of Dubai declared in World Government summit that the human ferrying drones will start transporting people by the coming July

Artificial Retinas

The US defines someone as blind if the person’s central vision reduced to 20/200, or if they lost peripheral vision, which sees below 20 degrees outside of central vision.

As per this data, around 1.1 million people are officially blind in the USA. Which is leading some organizations to develop something like Nano-Retina to manufacture elegant solutions for people with vision loss because of the retinal degenerative disease.

The NR600, tiny Nano-retina device, replaces the functionality of the affected photoreceptor cells and generated the electrical simulation needed to activate the available healthy retina cells.

Powerful Wireless charging

Wireless charging till now, generally means the charging through a pad, rather than via cables or wires. However, if we talk about the team from the Korea’s Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, wireless charging are possible with long distance.

The team recently described a prototype of latest Dipole Coil Resonant System (DCRS) can charge up a device from the distance of above 15 ft.

The DCRS systems riches this via a magnetic field and is powerful enough to charge more than 40 mobile phone, also can power large device like a TV.

2016 HO3, Second moon of earth

As per NASA, we’re no more single moon planet. A small asteroid named as 2016 HO3 was discovered in the Earth’s orbit, however, it might be small and insubstantial, but NASA says, it will be around for a while.

The manager of NASA’s Center for Near-Earth Object (NEO) sir Paul Chodas said, “Since 2016 HO3 circle our planet, however never ventures too far as we both visit around the sun, we define to it as a quasi-satellite of Earth”.

One of the controversial technique which implements the DNA of three humans to develop an embryo was tried by the scientists from the United States in Mexico, an outcome to the birth of a baby boy in April. the mother of the baby holds the genes for Leigh syndrome that affects the growing neural system.

Dr. John Zhang from the New Hope Fertility Center, USA has taken the nucleus of the mother’s egg, in the donor’s with erasing nucleus. It was later fertilized with the sperm of the father.

AR and VR

Till the date, we have seen some advance steps moving forward to augmented reality and virtual reality in 2016. Oculus Rift was launched to positive reception, followed by thousands of VR games and apps.

Our world of technology is ready for AR and VR and many devices with the latest technology has already come to the market, however, next year is estimated to be real implementation.

Autonomous Vehicles with safety features

Automobile accidents became one of the major reasons of disability and death with over 38,000 car crashes in the USA, in 2015. New automatic safety characteristics promise to provide dent in car accidents. Which includes the collision warning system to drowsiness alerts and even more features are on the way.

Safety technology is hoped to come within 2017, later after the United States Department of Transportation makes mandatory to use backup cameras in all the cars.

Presently, many of the software companies along with the automobile companies are focusing and investing a huge amount in autonomous cars. Some legal issues and safety questions remain, however, the driverless cars are expected to be used broadly within 2017.
